Stenhouse responded by saying because Kyle decided to run his mouth to the media, he didn't feel like he owed him an apology. "I honestly feel like I normally do reach out to people when I make mistakes and I clearly made a mistake, but with him running his mouth I just felt like I didn't really need to call him. I just let him know that. I told him, 'You're right, you do run a lot further up front, but pick and choose your battles wisely because you'll have to deal with me sometime, whether you're lapping me or we get our cars better and you're up there racing with us." "I told him if he wanted to keep running his mouth, he could come over and do it around me and I'll stop it for him." Somehow, I feel like we've heard this before. Ryan posted: 07.13.2018 - 10:59 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It's not cool to hate anyone, nor is it cool to take out half the field. Although Ky. Busch wasn't constructive, the criticism is necessary. It's not too often that Jimmie Johnson passes a driver (Stenhouse) for the lead and gets cheers. Stenhouse may want to pull an Ernie Irvan and apologize to the drivers in the drivers meeting tomorrow. He would gain a lot of respect back from the drivers if he did that. 31. Mannoroth posted: 07.14.2018 - 1:05 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 23. LOL. That's just Kyle, he just says what he thinks. That's all. By the way, he was right. How many races did Steakhouse win this season? Zero. How many races did Steakhouse win normally in his career? Zero. So there is no need to worry about him, until he starts leading a lot of laps and winning races normally... And it's funny how suddenly people call him the next superior superspeedway driver after winning just 2 consecutive superspeedway races - Kyle did the same thing in 2008 and no one was taking it seriously... Why? Because he was just lucky like Steakhouse and both of them failed to win another race at those tracks. 28. Yes, it can, but does it matter? He already has 5 wins! Some championship would be just a nice bonus to the good season, but Kyle is mainly a winning driver, not a championship driver. And 7 wins in a season, that's a nice number. He may lost his Xfinity streak yesterday, but he can still keep his streak of most wins in a season from all 3 series alive - the only serious opponents are Kevin Harvick (6 wins) and Johnny Sauter (4 wins). 32. If they don't give a damn, why should anyone else (and, for that matter, why should they even have a race date). @139 - Gateway is a flattish mile-and-a-tad. Basically another Loudon. As much as we need to get rid of some mile and a half tracks, another Loudon is not what we need. Montreal isn't an oval, so it's out of the question. Memphis and Iowa are good choices. Iowa is a 7/8th, and Memphis a 3/4, slightly flatter than Richmond. And with around 35,000 capacity, they'd be just the right size for today's NASCAR. Nashville Speedway (the fairgrounds, not the big track that's about to be torn down) would be another good one. It's a long half mile, a lot like North Wilksboro without the uphill/downhill. The owners of some of the mile and a half tracks need to start thinking about rebuilds, too. Take Joliet, for example - you could rebuild the turns & backstretch to make a very nice 3/4 mile, without changing the stands or pit road (you'd have to change pit in & out, of course). 160. They're long overdue for a seriously off year. They haven't had a year of less than 7 wins since 1982, when Buick was GM's car of choice, and Chevy was mainly Bobby Allison's backup. Since then, they've been first or second in manufacterer wins every year except 2000, and even that was a competitive third. Ford and Toyota have both had horribly embarrassing years in the recent past (2009 and 2014, respectively) and they've recovered quite nicely. Cheverolet will be back, just not this year. It is quite rare for a horribly embarrassing year to coincide with being the #1 most used manufacturer though. Offhand, the last time I can remember that happening was Ford in 1971. And I fully agree with whoever said that this year would be more interesting without the chase. This is essentially 1997, with three drivers who are almost guaranteed to win on any given week. David posted: 07.15.2018 - 9:08 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "I'm not worried about the state of Chevy. _They're long overdue for a seriously off year._" This is true and explains why NASCAR is hardly unhappy with the current state of affairs. From the Dale Earnhardt Era to the Jeff Gordon Era to the Jimmie Johnson Era (and don't forget champions like Tony Stewart, the Labontes, Kevin Harvick and even non-champions like Dale Earnhardt Jr.) GM has had the best drivers and the best results over an extremely lengthy period of time. It also explains why Chevy is not about to suddenly get a "gift package" from NASCAR a la what happened exactly 3 years ago in favor of some other manufacturer, a gift which has largely kept on giving. However there are off years and then there are *OFF YEARS* and this is the latter. The standard NASCAR-approved excuse has been that the Chevy teams & drivers are "figuring out" the new Camaro. Here we are more than halfway through the season, so if that excuse has any validity (it doesn't) then the Chevy guys are as slow mentally as they are on the track. BTW, note that this excuse is not offered so much by Chevy partisans as it is by those who are very pleased that Chevy _needs_ an excuse. Apparently the "all Chevy drivers except sometimes for Kyle Larson have suddenly forgotten how to drive" excuse didn't test well and was abandoned in favor of something that sounded halfway plausible, at least it did at first. (Larson only forgets how to drive when running in the top 5 in the late stages of a race.) This isn't a case of a lot of Chase Elliott-type performances (from previous years, I mean) where Chevys run well, lead laps and contend for wins only to blow it at the end through bad luck, stupidity or whatever. Aside from the occasional plate race or perhaps road course (less than 20% of the schedule), we've reached the point where unless Larson has a very good day the Chevys may as well consider it a "win" if they can squeak into the bottom half of the top 10. A top-5 is a once-in-a-blue-moon event and a win....? Fuhgettaboutit. So maybe this is all just a random "off year" of epic proportions and things will cycle back to normal eventually, but at this point the only thing that is certain is: nobody knows, and nobody also knows what NASCAR will - or will not - choose to do about it. Ford is facing the new Mustang coming up in 2019, which may turn out to be a non-issue entirely or (if Chevy still can't get the Camaro "figured out") may leave Toyota to run the table again. 187. Wrong. Through the 17 races prior to Kentucky in 2015, despite much wailing, Toyotas had won FOUR times already and that's with their biggest superstar driver on the disabled list for the first 11 of those 17 races. Toyotas led several hundred laps during that span and were a threat to contend in every single race. In 2018 Kyle Larson led 300 laps combined in just 2 races (winning neither, obviously) otherwise Chevys at the top of the leaderboard in any race have been basically non-existent. Back in 2015 JGR was the only viable Toyota team and still did quite well even before Christmas At Kentucky; in 2018 Chevy has more theoretically capable cars on the track in the form of Hendrick, Ganassi & RCR but still vastly inferior results. Or is it that the Chevy engines haven't changed one bit, but certain others (Ford) have suddenly taken a giant leap forward which allows them to stand relatively toe to toe with the best equipment on the track? I presume that everyone on the inside (NASCAR, the teams, the manufacturers, the engine builders, the fabricators, et al) knows full well the chassis dyno numbers and wind tunnel data and everything else that is relevant for all makes & models, but for some reason isn't making the true reason for the disadvantage public though, as some have suggested, Chevy ought to be screaming 24/7 to influence fan and media reaction, as has been successfully done in the past by others. I picked Joliet as an example because it could be remade - the stands are a compact block in the middle of the front stretch, so you could easily rework the turns to make a shorter track. You couldn't do that at Charlotte or Texas, because of the condos in the turn 1/2 end of the track. But I think the rest of the cookie-cutters could be reshaped without too much trouble. 197. possum posted: 07.15.2018 - 9:42 pm Rate this comment: (3) (0) @193 - NASCAR dynos engines from all three manufacturers every so often (and all three manufacturers see the results). If Chevy really was down on power, they'd be screaming loud and long for relief. And looking at the results at Bristol and Martinsville, where aero doesn't matter, the Chevies don't look down on power. I'd say it's an aero issue. Contrary to what someone said up above, aero can be very hard to figure out. With today's NASCAR-designed body, the manufacturers can only tweak very small areas, and finding the tweak which helps without hurting something else (and then getting NASCAR to OK it) isn't easy. 198. Including me, everyone thought that Martin Truex Jr. would dream the field, there go a handful of viewers who weren't bothered to watch. Also this race was on a Saturday, people could have had to work and missed it, where a lot of folks are off on Sunday. But yes, it is very alarming to see such numbers drop, but let's fix that and watch it! 201. Yeet posted: 07.23.2018 - 9:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) *cream 202.
