Probably a lot better potential than Earnhardt, even allowing for Earnhardt having a couple races experience at Pocono. 15. There are quite a few options there that could give an acceptable run in a Cup car and be expected to bring it back in one piece. It does seem odd they would add this race to their schedule and not have a firm pick in place to wheel it, though. 37. Tyson posted: 07.26.2018 - 4:25 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @36 - Actually, I wouldn't say there are a lot of options. Moffitt seems like the only Trucker capable of a Cup ride with GBR while also meeting contractual obligations. There are very few Toyota teams, so the only Toyota available drivers are Moffitt and Gragson. You won't see Crafton or Sauter run for another manufacturer. 38. possum posted: 07.26.2018 - 5:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @37 - yeah, it's not like the old days when a car owner could simply pick the driver he thought would do best with his car. Everyone's either formally contracted to a manufacturer, or is trying to show loyalty in hopes of getting a contract. It's not like 1963, when Joe Weatherly drove for 9 car owners (including my favorite, Possum Jones) and 5 different brands (Pontiac, Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, and Mercury). At least for his efforts Weatherly was champion that year. 39. It's also a track that Harvick has never won at, one of three in Cup for him (although Rockingham is defunct). Harvick and Kyle Busch start on the front row one week after putting on a scrappy battle for the lead at New Hampshire, which ended with Harvick moving Kyle for the lead with seven laps to go. Great Q run for Suarez in third, which matches his career best start from Dover in spring 2017. 73. You want a real dark horse, look at the driver starting a _career-best_ 3rd tomorrow; he sure has improved his qualifying lately, out of nowhere. Toyota needs to get Suarez a win for him to make the playoffs, barring a further collapse by the Hendrick guys who are clinging to the lowest slots right now. If he's running in the top 5 or 10 and it comes down to a final restart on Sunday with just a few laps to go and teammates up there to help Suarez out.... Besides, cars are failing every single week. What makes some weeks different then others are whether it's pre race or post qualifying. You never here about this many cars having to go back during pre-race inspection, they just get another crack at it and keep their starting spot. 111. 02Justin10 posted: 07.28.2018 - 9:43 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) This isn't NASCAR's fault. The big teams have their own scanning machine to play with and NASCAR allows teams to stop by and use theirs in North Carolina if wanted. Furthermore, none of the smaller backmarkers failed. If anything that means the top teams are pushing limits with their cars. 112. Spen posted: 07.28.2018 - 10:14 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'd hardly call Levine a top team. 113. As a fan I can comfortably say that Nascar isn't too interesting right now. However, the future of the sport is brighter than it may seem as a bunch of new young, talented drivers are coming up. Once those guys start winning and truly competing with the old vets like the Big 3, the sport will be a lot more entertaining. A breakout and win spurt from Chase Elliott would singlehandedly make the sport more successful as a whole-- even if it's completely unfair to put that burden on an already successful 22 year old, it's the truth. 261. He had a bad stop is why the contact with Almirola happened. However, that wasn't the time to pit. The time to pit was with three laps to go in stage 2 when everyone else did. It's the only way he could have been beat today by not pitting then and that's exactly what he did. Not only that, but he also so had some unfortunate restarts. He was untouchable and his pit crew cost him and his crew chief made some very questionable decisions. It might be possible that they thought they could win the stage AND come back to win the race, but that was going to be a tall order late in the race. He basically gained one playoff point to lose five by not pitting late in stage 2. I blame this one on Rodney Childress. I actually like Childress because he's made some good calls in the past, but he got snookered at Sonoma this year and he didn't call for him to come down at the end of stage 2 when all of JGR pitted today. Harvick didn't pit and he was back there with the squirrels. And when you hang out with squirrels your nuts are bound to get cracked. 266. He was truly a hidden gem in the garage and has given Harvick a rocket ship every week for a half decade. You can tell Harvick loves him. He did get snookered at Sonoma but like Kevin said nobody is perfect. And Childers did nothing wrong today unless you use the beauty of 20/20 hindsight. You're right about the crew though. You can rely on Harvick's crew to blow at least 2 wins every season, and it's been that way ever since he joined SHR 267. Let's see, if he's able to win at least 3 more races to break his personal best of 8 wins in 2008... Is it just me or Kyle Busch and his team are just using the same strategy like JJ and his team used to do? That means, to overcome the early problems and be the threat for the win at the end. I don't think it happened in this race, but at Chicagoland and Loudon, their handling wasn't good, but Adam Stevens figured it out for the end of the race and Kyle was suddenly able to fight for the win (he won at Chicagoland, finished 2nd at Loudon).
