Gallagher won his first Xfinity Series race at Talladega back in April only to get suspended immediately thereafter for a violation of NASCAR's substance abuse policy then work his way back through treatment, get reinstated, and make his Cup debut here. Gallagher was reinstated so quickly he hasn't been able to resume full-time racing in the Xfinity series yet since the team contracted with other drivers to sub for him for a longer period of time and did the right thing by honoring those contracts. 7. Higgins was one of the premier motorsport journalists through the '60s, 70s, 80s and 90s for the Charlotte Observer. He was essentially one with the sport of NASCAR, he knew everything that was happening in the garage each week, and could tell some great stories. Higgins had some great stories. Of course, my favorite are some good ones about Earnhardt. One in particular in which him, Earnhardt, and another NASCAR media member (maybe Barney Hall) went to Las Vegas after Dale won the championship at Ontario in 1980. They all three made hotel/casino reservations, but only Higgins and the other were able to get keys for their room. There was a foul up with Earnhardt's reservation. They teased Earnhardt and jingled their keys in front of him. An hour later Earnhardt called them from his room and told them to come see his "room". It ended up being an unbelievable suite with a spinning bed and he asked them if their room looked anything like his. Another was Childress and Earnhardt were driving on a road in NC and came upon Higgins who was driving a convertible of some type. Earnhardt told Childress to get as close as he could to Higgins car in the other lane and Earnhardt grabbed Higgins by the neck when they were going about 50 mph making Higgins mess in his pants. 59. Such a phenomena has happened only 2 times in 21 races so far in 2018, and both times a restrictor plate was necessary to get an underdog to victory lane. I suppose fans should be pleased that SHR (Harvick) has been competitive for wins this year otherwise it would be the "Big 1". Ugh. With the Glen being the last non-routine track on the schedule prior to the playoffs, all of those winless teams out there have to know that this is their one remaining chance to roll the dice and see if they can get a lucky roll. Qualifying results don't suggest that is likely to be the case, however. 63. Altracing posted: 08.05.2018 - 9:31 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Menard has failed inspection was going to start 14th 64. I've been kind of hard on him saying he hasn't met expectations where he hasn't won a race, but I did say it could be a possibility that he won this week on his driver page. I thought he choked it again going in to turn one on the last lap (he actually did), but was far enough ahead to keep the lead, which would have been moot even if he had lost the lead where Truex ran out of fuel. Those wins should start coming a lot easier now that he got the monkey off of his back. It seemed like I held my breath for the last 15 laps hoping he could hold off Truex. I really believe Kyle could have been a factor at the end if not for the problem in the pits, but Chase has had problems whether they were self-inflicted or not the last few years that cost him so that's just part of racing. Chase earned this one today as he held off the defending NASCAR champion and one of the Big 3. Truex gave everything he had including all of his fuel. I really thought they were both going to run each other out of gas with how hard they were racing and that ended up being the case. Neither one would have made it another lap. I thought at first that Elliott ran out of gas going into turn 1 on the last lap, but he just messed the turn up. In Chase's case, the air gun is in the crewman's hand and they are allowed to bring equipment into the adjacent pit box when servicing the car. So Chase hit a crewman and there's no penalty for hitting a crewman. In getting hit the crewman technically brought the air gun outside the box which is legal 288. He's a bridge that can connect with some of the old time fans, yet build his own audience. 306. Tarheel posted: 08.11.2018 - 7:41 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 305, I was thinking the same thing. Chase is the last connection to the old guard. Rusty's son, Dale Jarretts son, Terry Labontes son, and several others sons from that era, had shots at Nascar and didn't make it. Ryan Blaney will be just fine, but despite his Dad having been in cup, he still wasn't part of that crowd. Dale Jr did make it, but now that he's retired Chase is the last link. 307. That guy just won his first Cup race and you already want him to be the next face of NASCAR just because his father was popular like Earnhardt? Let him win more races and then say how we are in the new era. 308. Timothy Eklund posted: 08.11.2018 - 10:44 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) How is Dibby listed as running I thought he blew up 309.
