Keselowski can still point his way in if he wins both stages and Truex scores no stage points. Not likely from the 78 team but it could happen. Even if the 14 of Bowyer is not safe if he scores no stage points the 2 would be just 1 point behind Bowyer. 13. I beleive this deal was worked out because the Woods already had several races covered by Ford/Motorcraft, and since they owe Penske a bunch of favors they passed that number of races of Menard sponsorship to the #12. 15. Toyota Lotsa luck on Sunday to the Alex Bowman and Kyle Larson Chevys; they'll need every bit of it. Especially Larson after a putrid 27th in qualifying. On the bright side Ryan Blaney will start 4th, but still has his work very much cut out for him if he's to advance to the final 8. 17. joey2448 posted: 10.20.2018 - 1:02 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kyle Larson, who was docked 10 driver points earlier in the week for improperly fixed metal tabs to hold damaged sheet metal in place at Talladega, didn't help his cause on Friday when he got loose and slapped the turn 2 wall in practice. Larson is essentially a must-win driver after the penalty knocked him -36 points behind the cutoff. Back at this track in May, Larson led a race-high 101 laps and finished fourth even after a late incident hurt his chances of winning, but starting from the rear of the field in a backup will put the #42 team in a hole from the get-go on Sunday. 18. joey2448 posted: 10.20.2018 - 1:17 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Btw, here is the playoff points cutoff entering Kansas: Aric Almirola & Chase Elliott WIN 3. Alex Bowman -68 I'd say Logano and up are all feeling pretty comfortable, maybe even Kurt is too. But Bowyer and Truex can't afford to have a bad race. George posted: 10.20.2018 - 2:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Now that all the practice results are in it's looking pretty bleak for Larson's chances for advancement. Just like the previous race at this track in 2018, clearly no Chevy is going to be competing for the win tomorrow and probably not even a top 5 unless some very unlikely events occur to the frontrunners, but Larson in particular just doesn't seem to have any speed. The #42 was actually dominating here in May (led 101 laps!) as the lone competitive Chevrolet, so this is quite a reversal for Larson and it comes at a bad time. 23. Fewest amount of lead changes ever at Kansas, which already isn't the best track out there? I'm really not expecting the Cup package next year to improve anything. I could easily find more wins taken from Chase by circumstances than were "given" to him. The same holds true for practically any driver who has ever won. You have presented an utterly pathetic non argument. Try again. 98. Sector posted: 10.22.2018 - 11:27 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Congratulations to Chase Elliott on winning! He was already a lock into the next round, and winning granted him 5 extra points into the cushion for the next round. He also ties Brad Keselowski with 3 wins for 4th most win this season, behind Kevin Harvick, Kyle Busch (both with 7) and Martin Truex Jr. (4). Kyle Busch ends the 4-race streak of losing at least 10 points to Kevin Harvick in the regular season's standings, thanks to Kevin's late race pit road speeding penalty. He pulled away by 4 points. Also to note, with Jimmie Johnson contacting the wall (which didn't bring out the caution shockingly!), and finishing 22nd after running in the Top 10 most of the race, he has now fallen behind to 15th in the standings, 4 points ahead of teammate Alex Bowman for dead last among the Playoff drivers. This elimination set an entire team vs a variety of teams advancing to the Round of 8. We have all four Stewart-Haas Cars (Kevin Harvick, Clint Bowyer, Kurt Busch and Aric Almirola), followed by a Joe Gibbs (Kyle Busch), Furniture Row (Martin Truex Jr), Rick Hendrick (Chase Elliott), and Roger Penske (Joey Logano) remaining in the Playoffs. In a way, this is similar to the 2005 Chase when Jack Roush had all 5 cars in the Chase, when the Chase had 10 drivers at the time. 50% of the field. Neither won the championship that year, while Tony Stewart in a Joe Gibbs car won the title. Could 2018 be another case, ironically, with Tony Stewart owning half the cars remaining in the Playoffs in 2018? 99. That isn't the same as breaking a part or getting spun by a competitor. I'm not saying I do or don't believe there is something more than coincidence at work, but it's not lost upon me that NASCAR doesn't mind seeing a young fan favorite driver win. Whenever motive and opportunity exist for the sanctioning body to favor one participant, the question is going to come up. NASCAR doesn't have a squeaky clean history when it comes to trying to play favorites, they set themselves up for this kind of thinking. 100. The gap between Ford and Toyota is smaller in the manufacturer's points, but overall the playoff representation is not far off from what would be expected from the manufacturer's points or win totals for the season. 103. All 8 of the chasers could find themselves in the Top 10 coming down to the last laps at Martinsville and if there are restarts at the end there will not be an inch given to anyone. Someone running 3-6th could steal the win and free pass to Homestead and we could see a very heated last 3 races should a contender get punted in the last few laps due to heavily aggressive driving. I know if I was the one calling the shots at SHR and I was running 2nd or 3rd late to Kyle, Truex, Elliott or Logano I am giving team orders to be as aggressive as possible going for the win because if a wreck does happen chances are one of the SHR are going to benefit from it and inherit the lead and win. 104. racefangurl posted: 10.22.2018 - 6:06 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 63 reminds me of pie talk. 105. 33kalam posted: 10.22.2018 - 7:12 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Only 1 "real" caution in this race. 106. Back to back crap races, although at least both had fun winners. Suarez just drives up and pounds the wall on lap 3 ruining his day. It's comical that some think he's worthy of more time/more chances in A+ Cup equipment while many, many more deserving drivers get garbage. It was shocking how irrelevant Denny Hamlin was in this race. I think he's joined the McMurray/Newman/Stenhouse tier in terms of speed, rather than the elite group. 107. Tarheel posted: 10.22.2018 - 7:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Wil, Suarez sure couldn't have helped his case for a top ride next year but he'll probably get one anyway. As far as Hamlin goes, I'll be surprised if he doesn't have a new CC next year, though I'm not sure that's the solution anyway. He seems to start off good almost every weekend, qualifies good, and then once the race starts he just gradually slides backwards. It's kind of baffling. 108. Most of my friends are long time Nascar fans, but many of them aren't as interested in the sport as they use to be because Nascar has made itself more PC, gotten away from what made it good, and essentially made itself less interesting. Not a single person I know thinks it's "fixed". Do they sometimes get carried away with the caution flag to make for a closer finish? Sometimes, yes. Is it fixed in favor of particular drivers? No. 120. Anonymous posted: 10.27.2018 - 1:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (1) Before calling people morons, why not ask the dozens or hundreds of drivers who have competed in NASCAR over the years, particularly the 1960s to 1980s, who today go around saying it was rigged. 121. David posted: 10.27.2018 - 1:24 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) Thanks anyway, but I think I'll stick with the "moron" description. Because it applies so well to someone who claims to know what "millions" of NASCAR fans and "millions" of ex-fans are thinking and makes that along with other outrageous claims with zero documentation whatsoever. If you have such detailed information as to exactly why NASCAR has lost popularity in recent years, I'm sure they would love to hear from you. Then let's hear from those "hundreds" of drivers who think NASCAR was rigged (rigged against them, no doubt). But let's keep in mind that some biased person who "thinks" something is rigged against them does not begin to represent proof that it actually was. Anyone can dig up lots of questionable (or worse) decisions NASCAR has made over the years, but leaping blindly from that to "the entire sport is rigged!" is ridiculous. 122.
