Ford has been dominant everywhere this year. Everyone knows a Pontiac always won the Pontiac Excitement 400, and a Chevy always won the Chevy Rock & Roll 400, and a Ford always wins the championship on Ford Championship Weekend at Homestead... 5. Well that or Carl Long suddenly decides on a whim to drive the #66 himself this week and then pulls off the mother of all upsets. 7. That is the fewest number of entries for a race at Richmond since 1992, which was 27 years ago and at a time when the field size was capped at 36. 11. Well, it has gone that far that people have a problem, when Christopher Bell, a Xfinity Series regular that actually scores points there and belongs to that series, wins a race, because it's like seeing a Cup driver winning some lower series race. And now, even Kyle Busch can't win a Cup Series race, because he's a damn Cupwhacker and robs those poor Cup drivers for wins... These people like you need serious help, for real. 12. NASCAR stated that the change for this weekend at Richmond should not be viewed as the new qualifying format moving forward for Cup." https://nascar.nbcsports.com/2019/04/11/nascar-alters-cup-qualifying-format-for-richmond/ 14. Way to go Martin Truex, Jr! He took the advice from his spotter/crew chief to go high to take it away from Clint Bowyer and made Bowyer run his tires to go on the inside and burnt out. That was incredible to watch them battle the final 40 or so laps that close. Joey Logano nearly took another short track (as he did last fall at Martinsville) win from Martin Truex, Jr. Joey Logano was sideways coming to the checkers off Turn 4 to try to get to Martin Truex, Jr, just as Truex was behind Joey Logano then! Kevin Harvick was about 5 seconds back as the three were battling it out. He caught up to under a second with a handful laps to go so in the end it was a four car battle (but Harvick didn't really challenge for third when he got there). Martin Truex, Jr FINALLY scores his first short track win! Now we can stop hearing about him being winless at short tracks going forward! Prior to leading the last lap to win this race, Martin Truex, Jr did hold the title of leading the most laps at a short track and never winning one. I don't know the exact number, but it was well over 1,330 laps led as they were showing the numbers throughout the race. 106. I think Logano played nice this time since he has a win already and it's not the Playoffs yet. No reason to piss Truex off already and put a target on his back. (although he certainly did all he could in turns 3 and 4 when Truex blocked low and Logano went high to try to get a good bite off the corner) 112. And we don't see one driver winning 4 consecutive races like in F1, where it's just a piece of cake. Plus, 5 different winners in 9 races isn't horrible. Still better than one team of two teammates winning everything and being absolutely untouchable... On the other hand, I'm sure they didn't expect that this package will do the exact opposite - instead of seeing Austin Dillon or Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. winning at cookie-cutter tracks, those elite drivers keep winning all the races under normal circumstances. And that's the way it oughta be, because someone just has to finish last and first... In order to be the man, you gotta beat the man and try harder, not hope that NASCAR will help you out, if you don't have the skills to beat the man. 118. The #6 team, in particular, has really turned things around. At this time last year, Trevor Bayne ranked 26th, then dropped to 30th the next week. 120. Yes, we all know who the top 5 cars are every race before the week even starts. Teams like Roush, RCR, Germain, JTG are a lot more capable of putting together a good race. 121. That was the main theme of this race. Track position was everything and if you did not have it then too bad for you. Even KB who had the best car by far could not quite make his way back up to the lead because - especially on new tires - passing was almost impossible. I did not "hate" the finish but overall it was another very boring race with little passing. Racing is about being able to pass other cars. This is more of a mechanical exercise than a race. The racing is slowly getting better but NASCAR nee4ds to start doing something to make it so cars can pass, It's like there is a "bubble" from 7th or 8th back to 25th and once you are in that dirty air it's horrible. Richmond has become known as a tough track to pass though, even in previous years. Goodyear also brought a tire with very little grip and that may have had something to do with it. I can kind of understand a short track being tough to pass, because of how equal the lap times are, but NASCAR has a problem with passing everywhere. They went to a full-throttle package for the intermediates which is opposite of what creates passing. You need off-throttle time. Ideally, enough horsepower where the cars get going fast enough to where they need to use a little brake entering the corners and then wait to get in the throttle and have to play with the throttle through the corner. 145. To each their own though. I am glad that some are finding excitment again. We are slowly headed in the right direction but the inability to pass and 2 teams winning every race needs to be fixed. The cars need to be less aero dependent so they can pass and NASCAR needs to create a playing field where teams are not stuck in a box for the season. It's much harder now to "catch up" to the fast teams when your baseline set up is lacking because of no testing. NASCAR had it pefect at that time on the late 90's and early 2000's so it can be done and that is why the sport peaked in poularity at that time. 155.
