The spring race at Talladega is one of those races that has had a remarkably consistent spot on the schedule over the last 50 years, always falling somewhere between April 6 and May 16. All but 9 races have fallen in the even narrower window between April 25 and May 7. Even with all the schedule changes coming next year, Talladega will continue to have a late April date. 10. I think Nascar has mandated a smaller spacer for this race, so I expect it to be a little bit closer to pack racing than Texas was, with the draft a little more important, but over a long green flag run they could separate some. 20. 1995-Subaru-WRX-Sti posted: 04.24.2019 - 7:36 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) ^ All NASCAR did was raise the spoiler too 9 inches and basically bring the rear of the cars 1in off the ground via some method. Other then that the package is same in regards too Aero Ducts and horsepower. NASCAR wasn't happy with how fast they were going in testing. Find it cool and scary that even with a big spoiler and aero ducts the cars are still hauling the mail. Guess giving 100hp more is all that is takes. 21. Anthony posted: 04.24.2019 - 9:44 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) They were running 200 in testing at Daytona with only 3 cars. The lower 9 inch spoiler was decided based on running 3 cars together, not 30. I am concerned a lot more than normal about this race. Let's just hope that they all get through it without anything serious. 22. Tarheel posted: 04.24.2019 - 10:06 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I stand corrected. I knew they had changed something, but you're correct. More power and a taller spoiler might make it like the restrictor plate racing from about 2000, when Earnhardt came from 27th or so to win in just a few laps. But really, who knows. Then on the last lap, inexplicably plowed up into William Byron and caused the biggest crash of the year. Extremely expensive day for Front Row Motorsports. My question is what if the Byron/Larson crash hadn't happened, and they had raced back to the line with Stenhouse's crashed car just sitting there? What if somebody had gotten spun coming to the line at 210 mph, right into a stopped car? I give it a 9 out of 10 at least and it would have been a 10/10 if not for the Fords being so much faster than the rest. It reminded me of being a kid in the mid to late 90's watching a race with family. There was excitement and drama and many different cars had a good chance to win. it was just icing on the cake that Chase won. Growing up an Elliott that started watching NASCAR in 1989 I never got to see my driver win at Dega. Bill's last win there was 1987. Then being a KK fan his best finish there was second. It was so cool for me to see my driver get a win there....But even if Chase had not pulled it out it was still a great race. I hope NASCAR is paying attention. The stands were full yesterday not because of the possibility of a crash but because more than 2 or 3 guys had a decent chance to win and you could actually pass. That is what made the sport so popular in the 90's and early 2000's. I'm starting to think NASCAR would be better off to just eliminate the 1.5 mile tacks and got to Daytona, Talledega and Bristol and Martinsville like 4 times a year each. LOL. Texas was actually pretty good a few weeks ago though so maybe there is hope. The racing has been better overall of late except for Richmond which was a snooze fest where drivers were commenting that it was like a "kidney stone" trying to pass. 365. It felt like watching NASCAR just like I always used to, there was a lot of excitement and there was lots of passing and it really did feel like racing when I was younger. Drivers had chances to win and they could make moves and drive cars to the front and even if they got shuffled out, they could drive it back to the front. Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman didn't have the best cars but they were able to get to the front when they needed to and Elliott won the race. Overall, it's good to a race like this, NASCAR take notes. 367. Mile501 posted: 04.29.2019 - 10:50 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Ford drivers led exactly half the laps (94 of 188). Now, I still think it's highly unlikely he would make the playoffs, but it is a possibility, and it is surprising to even be able to say that. It is a much better view of it. Kurt got beside Stenhouse then got loose because of slight connect between them.
