The question is can he do it? Prior to his injury in 2015 this track was Kyle's worst. Since his injury, he is on an 8 straight Top 10 streak. 6. That's it, he also holds that record now just like Shepherd. If he gets another one or not, that doesn't matter that much now... 7. Bubba Wallace laid down an impressive lap and will start 12th. Hopefully that will help his confidence a bit. Ty Dillon continues to impress this year and will start 15th. He also started in the top 15 at the similar tracks of Las Vegas and Texas earlier this year. Relative to his equipment, Landon Cassill's 25th-place starting spot isn't too shabby, either. Ryan Newman seems to have lost his "Rocketman" edge over the years. He has 51 career poles, but his last pole was 6 years ago. He struggled to a 28th-place starting spot this evening. But, he has improved from his starting position in all but 3 races this year and he has 4 top 12 finishes in the last 5 races. 23. possum posted: 05.10.2019 - 9:08 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) @22 - group qualifying clearly didn't suit Newman's style. Kevin Harvick was "The Closer" at RCR but now seems to be the opposite-- many wins have slipped from his grasp when he dominated the race. The new Closer is Brad Keselowski. He seemingly wins ALL THE TIME on late restarts when he hasn't been in the lead all day. This race, a couple last year, and Atlanta two years ago, among others, come to mind as races where he led only a handful of laps and they were right at the end. Closer. 2. I've been a Bowman optimist even through this year's struggles but never saw this burst of race winning speed in him. He went from on the hot seat to inevitable race winner in a matter of weeks. 3. @173 It's very simple. Jones is contending for the win unless he gets taken out by a pit road miscue or mechanical failure. He wasn't screwed the last two weeks, and the results are not surprising. 4. While I don't expect over 16 winners this year, I am optimistic that we might get there in the next couple of years. Some of the young guys are starting to contend for wins more regularly, while some of the veterans aren't looking quite as strong as they did in recent years. That sets up a perfect combination to get more race winners. 187. Mile501 posted: 05.12.2019 - 5:40 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Adding to my last comment, we see evidence of that with a greater variety of drivers leading laps so far this season. In 2017, only 12 drivers led a total of over 100 laps (a shocking drop compared with 2001 when 26 drivers led over 100 laps). In 2018, the number rose slightly to 13 (14 if you want to include Erik Jones who led 99 laps). This year, we already have 11 drivers who have led close to or more than 100 laps, and we're just 1/3 of the way into the season. Based on how things have gone so far, I wouldn't be surprised if as many as 18 drivers lead 100 laps by season's end. And when you get more drivers leading, you will eventually see more drivers winning. 188. joey2448 posted: 05.12.2019 - 6:55 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Haven't seen the race since I was working Saturday, but man it sounds like it was pretty wild and awesome. Can't wait to watch it later today. It's crazy how one week the new aero/hp package can suck the life out of a racetrack (Dover), but the next week it can produce spectacular racing. Hopefully this bodes well for the Coca-Cola 600 in two weeks. And as far as Bowman? I did not see this run of success coming AT ALL. I mean, a runner-up at Talladega? Eh, it's a superspeedway. But showcasing legit speed and finishing second at both Dover and Kansas? What a quick turnaround for that driver and team. It's like the switch has been flipped. All you guys who thought he'd never make it can eat crow. By the way, keep trashing Bubba Wallace. I would not be surprised in the least if he gets going at some point. May not be this year, but Wallace is too damn talented (like these other young guns) to remain a 25th-place car. Even if it means he has to jump to another team (since the #43 is simply not good enough), he can do it. I believe in him.
