Might be boring at the beginning since we have 300 laps to get yourself ready for the finish. So, don't get bored by the race, because it is 4+ hours long. 3. You can just watch the key moments of the race or the most important part of the race - the finish. That's what I'm doing, because I don't have time to watch full NASCAR races due to my other hobbies and work. 4. 34McDowellFan posted: 05.21.2019 - 11:44 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 3rd race this season with a full field, first non-plate race 5. Also, Rick Ware seems intent on running all three cars for the 600, a questionable choice because two of the three entries had mechanical troubles in last Saturday's 50-lap Open. BJ McLeod in the #53 made it a whole 17 laps in before his engine expired. 7. He is doing better at SHR than he was at JGR, but his #41 team is doing worse than last year, while his former team is doing better. That tells me that his talent level just isn't quite up to par with his teammates within either organization. 15. You could credit that to the overall organization being a bit better, or the drivers just being at the experience level where you would expect to see them getting more comfortable. I would suspect it's a combination of both. 19. George posted: 05.22.2019 - 10:44 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) After the boot being on Chevy's throat for all of 2018 and early 2019, nearly all the big Ford & Toyota teams' drivers had very little room to improve further. So naturally if there was any improving to be done it would have to be from the Chevys, and Hendrick is the #1 team there so it's also no surprise that Byron, Bowman & Elliott would be ahead of where they were one dismal year ago at this time. Maybe the only real "surprise" is that Jimmie Johnson is NOT on the list. Nor is Kyle Larson, but then Larson was the one and only Chevy driver who -- at least early in the 2018 season -- showed even the faintest glimmer of competence under the prevailing circumstances, so he was the one who had the least margin for improvement so far in 2019. But he may show more as 2019 progresses, with the All Star win hopefully giving him some long-awaited momentum. 20. 34McDowellFan posted: 05.22.2019 - 12:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Cody Ware is in the #51 Bayley Currey is in the #52 21. This marks the third consecutive race in which at least 3 Hendrick cars have finished in the top 10, demonstrating their rather sudden, significant improvement over the last few races. When was the last time all 4 Hendrick cars finished in the top 10 in a race? It's been more than 4 years. It last happened in the spring Texas race in 2015, with Jimmie Johnson along with three other drivers who have all since retired (Gordon, Earnhardt Jr., Kahne). 240. Mile501 posted: 05.27.2019 - 5:02 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) With Byron's recent improvement, the top 17 in current point standings now consists of all 17 drivers from the top 5 organizations in the series right now (Gibbs, Penske, SHR, Hendrick, and Ganassi). The good thing is, there is a fair amount of parity within this group. The current top 4 in points includes drivers from 4 different organizations. I would not be surprised if at least 15 drivers from this group are the ones who ultimately make the playoffs, with the last spot going to Suarez, Jones, or a surprise winner if we have one. If we have no surprise winners, I personally feel like Suarez will be the one driver from this group who is left out, because he seems to be sliding back while everyone around him in points has been improving. Continuing our look at the current point standings... 18th & 19th belong to the Roush duo, followed by the Wood Brothers in 20th. All the RCR, JTG, and Germain teams occupy 21st-25th, and a nice symmetric pattern is found here (they are in this order: RCR, JTG, Germain, JTG, RCR). The remaining semi-competitive teams rank 26th-31st (LFR, Front Row, GO FAS, and Petty). While drivers within the same organization being near one another in points has become common in recent years, it is still unusual for the standings to be organized so perfectly by organization. 241. I know the teams Terry was with from 1990 to 1993 did not help his win totals at all, but Terry still was not going to get 30 cup wins due to him being very conservative on the race track aka taking care of his equipment to an extreme. I got a ton of respect for Terry's Skill. He could really could hold with the best of them on short tracks, 1 mile tracks, and road course. Terry even can do bigger tracks. He was not known for being aggressive though. Terry Labonte was a points race to the very extreme in his prime and it hurt his win totals a good amount. Terry did not care much about wins as much championships. Terry Labonte cared about the big picture a lot and that the NASCAR championship. Case in point is if Terry Labonte did not get 6 engine dnfs in 1982 and not being in a 1982 riverside crash, Terry Labonte was going be NASCAR's only driver in the cup series to win a cup championship without winning a single NASCAR. I am positive the Bill France Jr. would change points system because drivers with 0 cup wins are not supposed to win a championship over driver with 12 wins in a season and 8 wins in a season. 249. So far this season he has three top 10s (23.1%), two of which obtained in the last two races. He also has completed 99.2% of his laps and has an average finish of 19.2.
