Here we might see a race with some actual capability for cars to pass, i.e. more along the lines of Kansas or Charlotte than the snoozers that were Fontana & Pocono, as opposed to superior horsepower/clean air ruling the day. 5. Danish_Pie posted: 06.04.2019 - 10:44 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The most recent race at Michigan, Austin Dillon was a flat tire away from a runner up finish, no fluke strategy or anything. Michigan is a more competitive track then people give it credit for. I'm gonna predict a Stewart-Haas car gets to victory lane for the first time this year. 6. I think this will be a good race with a lot of passing within the pack. The aero/engine package this year simply seems better suited for banked tracks with moderate tire wear. 5, Michigan seems to be one of Austins personal best tracks anyway, but you are right about Michigan being a competitive track. Rudd and Gordon side by side at the checkers in 2001, Jarrett leading all day in 99 and suddenly on the last lap Gordon is all over him, I remember Kahne making a pass four wide on the outside in 2006, one lapped car, Johnson, and Gordon. There have been plenty of good races at Michigan. 10. On the othr hand, what a terrible pit stop by the #42 with 25 laps to go. Taking 4 tires wasn't a good idea and they did it so slowly, it's heartbreaking, they deserved a better result once again. I've never really enjoyed watching races at Michigan since they repaved it but I thought it was even worse with this package. We're at a point where the driver input is at an all time low with the cars being wide open the entire time and then we compound it with tires that don't wear out, it's not the most thrilling kind of racing for the drivers. Sometimes, drivers follow another car and try to go low and pass but very often, they find themselves stuck on the inside then they try everything to come back up behind the guy they should have passed and block the runs coming from behind or they lose a bunch of spots, I'm quite amazed they don't wreck more often since many competitors find it incredibly frustrating. 211. He may have figured that Harvick probably wasn't going to pass Logano, and that giving Harvick 4 tires would put him in better shape if there were some late-race cautions. For a driver who is solid in points but hasn't won yet, that type of gamble would make sense. We did have 1 late-race caution, and I believe Harvick advanced at least 5 positions in the restart (it seems like he was around 12th-14th before the last restart, though I could be wrong about that). 223. joey2448 posted: 06.11.2019 - 10:08 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I think Harvick didn't lose or gain anything on the final GWC restart. I think he was seventh at the green flag. But he came out of the green-flag pit cycle running like, 14th or something, and made up spots before the caution with 5 to go. 224. 1995-Subaru-WRX-Sti posted: 06.11.2019 - 10:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It has been 6-7 since they repaved the racetrack and groove and only gone down toward the apron. Unlike Kansas where after 2 or so years the groove is from the wall too the white line. I do realize MIS needs too have pavement that can survive Michigan winters but I would say they did too good of a job since 6-7 years after a repave hasn't hardly moved at all. 225. Everyone wondering when a win will be taken away it will probably be because of three loose lugnuts. We have already had instances of two being loose so three is a distinct possibility. 228. The odds of a driver with even one loose lugnut running more than a few laps before they're on the radio with "loose wheel! I gotta pit now!" are also small. In short, it's a useless rule that exists more so NASCAR can show "they're in control" than for any real safety or competitive fairness reason. 231.
