In the year 2000, we started off the year with 10 different winners in the first 10 races of the season. Let that sink in folks 7. Mile501 posted: 07.17.2019 - 4:48 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) We've already had 9 different winners just this season. Between 2018 and the first half of 2019, we've had 15 different winners. So comment #6 is way off. 8. Corey posted: 07.17.2019 - 8:08 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) @6 Either they need a new stat guy or you misheard something. Along with the 9 guys this year we have Harvick, Jones, Almirola, Bowyer, A.Dillon, and Blaney who won in 2018. That's 15 drivers in the last 55 races. 9. Joshua posted: 07.17.2019 - 8:08 am Rate this comment: (2) (0) 150 races is over four seasons' worth of races, and would go back far enough to include wins from Jeff Gordon, Tony Stewart, and Dale Earnhardt, Jr., just to name a few, who are no longer racing. Maybe you heard it wrong or they phrased it wrong, but that is nowhere near correct. 10. senty posted: 07.17.2019 - 8:09 am Rate this comment: (4) (0) @6, including Haley we've had at least 23 different winners in the last 150 11. Michael posted: 07.17.2019 - 9:39 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @6 In the past 150 races, there have been 10 organizations (11 if we include Spire) who have won (Furniture Row, Stewart-Haas, Gibbs, Hendrick, Penske, Front Row, Ganassi, Roush, and Wood Bros.), so perhaps that's what was being referred to in the podcast. The comparison to 2000 is still interesting though. Most teams at that point had only one or two cars, so in the first 10 races of that season, those 10 winners came from 8 different organizations. 12. (He did start 9th in this year's Daytona 500, but of course that was set from the duels and not from qualifying. Otherwise, he's never started better than 16th in any Cup race.) He seems to be good at Loudon though--he just hasn't been in equipment good enough to showcase it before this year. Other than Daytona, his previous best starting spot was 16th, which he accomplished twice, both at Loudon: once with BK Racing and once with GO FAS Racing. 44. The other 5% chance is probably Kevin Harvick. Between qualifying and the Bowties' hilarious performance in practices with several of them finding the wall (Bowman, Byron, Larson), it's a safe bet to be just about 100% Fords & Toyotas in the top 10 on Sunday. Maybe Kurt Busch keeps it from being a sweep. Shame that DiBurrito couldn't keep up his speed from yesterday, but he does have a prime starting spot and might be able to maintain that level for a little while during stage 1. 46. A.J. posted: 07.20.2019 - 3:19 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) A Larson win would be nice, not to mention WAY overdue, but someone sitting 40 points to the happy side of 17th place with 7 races to go does not in fact "need" to win in order to make the playoffs. He's obviously not locked in and may not be until race #26, but it's still asinine to think he's somehow in a must-win situation. 48. ScottB posted: 07.20.2019 - 3:54 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) I did some quick math on Larson's chances of making the playoffs, and he's sitting at 97-98% locked in. A DNF would put him right on the cusp, but there are still 4 drivers behind him who would also have to get through 7 races without any bad finishes themselves (or win their way in). The combination of him hitting a bad streak and exactly the right combination of others getting hot in that stretch of races is quite unlikely. But, yeah, a win to seal it would be nice for him. 49. UnderdogDriversFan posted: 07.20.2019 - 4:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @47 But it IS a must-win situation, given that Erik Jones, who is plenty fast, is behind him. It's been a long time since I've heard of someone breaking a driveshaft, but back in the day if that happened you put a new driveshaft in (and possibly a new clutch or rear end, depending on how it broke), and went back out. Also interesting that the 48 backup apparently was in primer, so they could easily wrap it for the 88. I wonder if HMS routinely takes one backup in primer just in case they need to switch teams. 54. Corey posted: 07.21.2019 - 12:33 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @53 RCR did that once back in 1998. It was in preparation for the back to back races at Daytona and Talladega. It would defeat the purpose. What Jones did was run over the box, which by NASCAR's definition means, you are not committed to pit road. He then proceeded to the track and never entered the pits, so no penalty. If he had been completely below the box and then got back onto the track, that would have been a penalty. 239. possum posted: 07.21.2019 - 6:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @99 - more remarkable was the report they were asking the #37 team for a replacement. Now it's a painted box (which is all but impossible for the drivers to see) the rule is you must have all 4 tires inside the box if you are going to pit road, and if you have all four tires inside the box you must go down pit road. If you only have two tires inside the box you may (in fact must) go back on the track. 243. Jeff Burton was a commentator for this race witnessing Kevin Harvick tying him in all time wins here with 4. Meanwhile, Kevin Harvick had to beat teammates Kyle Busch AND Denny Hamlin in two consecutive races (both involving contacts, mind you!) to surpass both (Kyle and Denny has 3) in total New Hampshire wins to tie his former teammate, Jeff Burton. If Cup run at Milwaukee this would be similar. When Busch series ran Milwaukee they only had two multiple winners in 19 races (and one of them was a FT Cup driver at the time). Although it could be somewhat of a reach (depending on how long he drives and if the team is competitive), if he can get nine more wins he'll tie Rusty Wallace with 55 wins and be in the top-10 on the career wins list. What a great achievement for a guy that was 38 years old when he started with Stewart-Haas and only had 23 wins. This guy with amazing talent unfortunately lost time at RCR, but in six seasons at Stewart-Haas will go down as one of the best drivers of his era and will be a good argument to be one of the top-10 drivers of all time. Harvick got his 23rd win with Stewart-Haas in his 200th start with the team. At RCR he won 23 races in 466 starts. It will always be mind-boggling to me that he won 23 races with RCR in sub-par equipment. It's when Hendrick, JGR, and Roush were the at the top of the Nascar world. After Earnhardt died, Harvick won some big races here and there, but they haven't been much since he left except with some more than timely wins for Dillon. What a great call by Rodney Childers to get his guy out front. Although he had older tires, you have to like your chances with the best and smartest driver in the sport regardless of old tires or new tires out front. I can't blame Childers with the call either, the last pit stop Harvick went from 2nd to 5th. What a call. He didn't have much confidence in his pit crew and told the best to do his job. If I'm Kevin Harvick I'm not doing Austin Dillon any favors for being in the way at the end. I mean for real, what position are you racing for at that point of the race? Dillon was running 32nd (32 laps down) at that time with no chance of gaining or losing any positions. Get out of the way already. The 32 car of Lajoie was in the way the lap before that with no chance of making the playoffs or gaining any positions. Harvick is so pro it hurts. He did the right thing by making sure Hamlin didn't get another crack at him and moved to the bottom of the racetrack going into turn 3 and then making sure he used Hamlin up out of 4 to get back to the finish line first. What a clutch move to win the race he had no business winning. When given the opportunity big time racers come up big when given the chance. He has his whole career at the end of races. If not for a late race caution at Homestead last year caused by slower cars he probably would have won the championship. Chevrolet was trying to make it four wins in a row, but failed and didn't even get a car in the top-10. Was Chase Elliott even in the race today? Ricky Stenhouse says he "owes" Erik Jones now as he feels Jones "has got him" twice now. So, does that mean that everyone owes Stenhouse after the crashes he caused at Daytona last year in July and this year in February? 279. Average finish in first 10 races this season - 25.3 Average finish last 10 races - 24.1 So technically its an improvement. The top 15 at Daytona really helped and its still a long season ahead. However, when I fished for this stat I noticed they scored more top 20 finishes in the first 10 (2) as opposed to the most recent 10 (1), both at the short tracks of Bristol and Martinsville. But, in these last 10 races, they've scored more Top 25s than the last 10 (6) as opposed to the first 10 (4). So rather than running closer to the front, they have simply been more consistent than earlier in the season. They are now knocking on the door of running Top 20 and if they are able to become a consistent Top 20 car then it's definitely going to be considered and improvement. Like it says on the main page in the comments section, just don't put a space in your name *even at the end*. But you surely aren't required to leave the name entirely blank. 295. Kyle Busch outscored him in 2018 due to two penalties from the first Vegas and second Texas races. Also Matt Kenseth ruined Joey Logano's win at Martinsville in 2015, that was Kevin's saving grace. 297. Chase9Fan posted: 07.22.2019 - 10:03 pm Rate this comment: (1) (1) Test from cell phone 298. I have missed all of the races since Busch won at Pocono. Bc I can't watch it on TV. I haven't missed much I'm headed to Watkins Glen in two weeks. I'm so damn excited. Anyway go Harvick. 302.
