I understand that people were turned off by the lack of true passing, which resulted in the #22 leading a track-record 163 laps. I get that passing is really difficult under this aero package and that it takes a really good set-up on a guy to complete a pass, cuz if you don't clear a guy off a corner, you're going backwards. But the thing that kept my interest in the June race was the leader never got away from second place. For me, that's enough to keep me intrigued. Logano led a ton, but Truex and co. were right on his ass the whole way (except for a small stretch near the end, but second and third were still able to run Logano down in a few laps). If a guy is dogging the leader with the laps winding down, it makes for an exciting finish. Just my opinion. 25. Whoever is on the top with the PJ1 is going to have a great advantage over the bottom cars. So you're going to see guys who would rather be position(s) worse than others because they restart on top which goes against the very core of racing. I don't understand why I am of the great minority of NASCAR fans when it comes to not liking double file restarts. 36. Wil posted: 08.11.2019 - 1:14 pm Rate this comment: (3) (0) @35 I like double file restarts but the current package is showing its major flaw. I agree with you, it's better to start in 4th than in 2nd and better to start 6th than 3rd, at most tracks. Top side is such an advantage, they should consider letting EVERY row choose whether they'd like to be top or bottom. 37. JohnG posted: 08.11.2019 - 1:23 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) @36 David Smith former of Motorsports Analytics and now The Athletic has some great articles on how unfair double file restarts are. Maybe it's worse now but its been super unfair since it started in 2009. The concept of wanting to be positions worse so you start in the better line has been happening since 2009. It isn't like this at all tracks but it's like this at too many. Phoenix is one of the worse. The same track that holds the final race of the Round of 8 and the track that will be the deciding track for the championship next year. Imagine losing a championship because you were penalized for being in a better position than someone else. 38. Scott25 posted: 08.11.2019 - 1:39 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) Dirt tracks have always let each driver pick what line they want to start in on restarts, that's how NASCAR needs to be. If the top 5 cars all want to start on the outside then the 6th place can take a risk and start on the inside of the front row 39. I try to be realistic when I make posts on what I would do if I was in charge of NASCAR. I understand that the double file restarts bring entertainment.. JohnG posted: 08.11.2019 - 2:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) "The fandum has a very unique habit of not being able too agree on anything" I'm not sure if this is true or not but I'm very surprised with the problems I've mentioned here with double file restarts that most people don't feel the same way I do. Out of every possible rule I would feel like this should/would have the most agreement. "and can never be pleased by anything." If you're referring to me on this then my rebuttal is that the points I made should make my opinion on double file restarts kind of a common sense opinion. If they end up creating the rule that was mentioned in @38 then I would be fine with double file restarts and I wouldn't complain unless something like the Cole Whitt Xfinity race thing happens in the final championship race. "One of the reasons why NASCAR is where it is." In my opinion people way over think about why NASCAR has lost popularity. In my opinion 1990s-2007 was because it was a fad. 2016-present drop is because of the big name driver retirements. "While the double file restarts will likely show the disadvantages of the bottom lane, but strategy can make it eventful as to how well cars brake check/pass cars on pit rod to get themselves on the top, and strategy is huge in this sport, right?" I would agree with you if all of the restarts or all but 1ish restarts happened after cars pitted. 43. Plus SLAYER is huge in the Rock community, which a lot of NASCAR fans enjoy, this is a great way to get SLAYER more attention at one of NASCAR's biggest venues and at the same time provide strong funding for one of the lower-budget teams. Rick Ware Racing probably already had the sponsors set up for this race a while back and maybe SLAYER just recently showed interest and rather having to pick and chose a sponsor they fielded another car to please everyone.
