Brandon Jones will not be in the 81 as it will not exist. Jeffrey parted ways for a reason. Joe Gibbs has already taken them off the car once before. Combine that with the fact that XCI have only competed in 4 races this year even though the announced plans for more, then something tells me there are big issues behind the scenes. 12. I was told after the Atlanta race DC is for only for qualifying drivers who do not race after Austin Cindric practiced Brad Keselowski's #2 (Brad had the flu...but would race and WIN anyway) but didn't race it. Same case as here though since Cindric did a few laps in the #2 Ford during practice so did Keselowski in the same sessions with Brad being the driver on record on the score sheets. Cindric practiced but didn't qualify the #34 Ford at the roval and got a DC for that but I think it's because he was the driver of record for the first practice session (McDowell had a health issue and sat it out but was ready for the race). 45. It is his 8th pole of his career, half of which came in this season alone. This is a great momentum booster as Chase won here after leading the most laps back in the Talladega spring race earlier this year. For example in the 2005 spring race Dale Jarrett finished 9th. He ran only 33 of 194 laps in the top 15 all day and had an average running position of 29th. That give a strong indication of what he was doing all day, pretty much nothing, then started racing when the checkered flag was in sight and got into the top 10. Naturally a Big One or two had an impact as well, but that just shows how shrewd DJ was on that day. Too bad we can't check that stuff prior to 2005 however. 152. Elliott already has one bad finish in this round (blown engine last week at Dover) so he's probably gonna have to win next week at Kansas to stay in title contention. As far as who's fault that wreck was, it's nobody's fault. Just racing. It was four laps to go in the stage, Logano had a big run and Bowman blocked. They were doing what they had to do. 255. Newman put a semi-block on Blaney through the tri-oval, but left just enough room for Ryan to get under him and when they made contact, Blaney had to save his car from wrecking, and that put him below the line. If Chase Elliott wins as he did at Kansas last fall, the driver who does not advance will likely be one of these two. Also for all those complaining about Blaney going under the double yellow, like some had said earlier nascar set the precedent in the truck race as Sauter was the one penalized not Riley Herbst. Everyone complains about the Haley and Smith incident yet when nascar gets it right they still complain. And for those saying that nascar conspires against the underdogs, keep in mind that sauter is in a top truck team and spencer boyd is in the equivalent of front row motorsports in the truck series, and they gave boyd the win. But I have to make a point that's gnawing at me. This shouldn't be how the playoffs--and season--are decided. I like Blaney and I'm thrilled he won, but the ending of that race felt like a carnival. It didn't feel like racing to me as much as it did an eliminator-style reality show. Is that the way it should be in the playoffs when the stakes are this high? When Ryan Blaney wins, everyone rejoices. I was rooting for him at the end, like everyone else. But does the euphoria of his win completely cloud the fact that this was more of a show than a race? Would there be more backlash if Newman had nipped Blaney and won? I expect this to be negatively received, but it's an alternate point of view, and one that I'm sure everybody in the field not named Blaney would agree with. I was thoroughly entertained, but it was a game of powerball more than a race. Cup drivers are athletes, but sometimes today I wonder if they feel more like theater performers for an audience more than racers. 484. Just a pet peeve I have that drives me nuts. I'm watching human powered cars race, not empty remote controlled slot cars. When Sullivan did it at Indy, he spun the car 360 degrees without hitting anything and without stopping got back on the gas and resumed racing (they did throw the yellow, unnecessarily but understandably since it's all but impossible to spin where Sullivan did without hitting the wall). Until someone else does it without hitting anything, without going off-track, and without stopping Sullivan's is the only "spin and win". 495. possum posted: 10.15.2019 - 8:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @488 - using car numbers comes from the spotters. I consider it any time a driver loses control/gets hit and spins out. Whether he comes to a stop or not, and whether he stays on track and doesn't hit anything, is completely irrelevant. Basically, the spin-and-win stat is simply to point out that a racer had to overcome an issue to win. It's not every week you see a guy have an on-track incident and recover to win the race. 499. Sector posted: 10.16.2019 - 5:33 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #494 I absolutely agree. At most Martin Truex, Jr is the truest form of "spin-and-win" at Richmond about a month ago. To discredit that because he didn't come to a complete stop and basically looked like he was doing a burnout while spinning is absolutely stupid. Elliott wasn't necessarily a "spin-and-win." It was a "crash-and-win" for sure. Blaney can be looked at both ways since it was basically a "mistake on pit-road" scenario so he didn't necessarily spin on the racetrack, and the rain delay to postpone the race just didn't have that "feeling" as Truex's did. 500. People using Chase Elliott's win at the ROVAL to be "spin-and-win" incident is pretty stupid. Chase locked up straight into the wall, no spinning about it. However I would give Martin Truex, Jr the honor of "spin-and-win" because of how late into the race it was and he still had to drive through the field, beating teammates Denny Hamlin and Kyle Busch, the best active drivers of Richmond today. 506.
