If Harvick doesn't have any issues, he has a great chance of winning. Last fall, he was leading but had a pit road penalty. In the spring, he dominated that race until he had a flat tire. I am keeping an eye on the "Freaky Fast" #4 on Sunday. 2. Here is a quick look at how they've done over the last couple of years at Kansas: Alex Bowman has improved each time he has raced at Kansas since taking over the #88 full-time, with finishes of 18th and 9th last year, then 2nd back in the spring after leading 63 laps. Chase Elliott won this race last fall, and finished 4th in the spring, leading around 45 laps each time. Clint Bowyer finished 5th at Kansas in the spring, but prior to that, his last four finishes were between 9th and 19th. William Byron has a terrible record at Kansas due to 2 DNFs in both races last year. In the spring, he started 3rd but finished 20th. 3. 61LongFan posted: 10.15.2019 - 4:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #66 Will Be Joey Gase (Sponsor Donate Life Kansas) 4. Joey started on the pole and led the most laps at Kansas last year (which started his strength to the end of the season following a Martinsville and Homestead wins for the championship). Joey's won this race event in the fall twice before. While Joey is only 20 points to the good entering Kansas, and Harvick 38 points to go the good for advancing to the next round as well, Joey would want to score more stage points as he did finishing second both stages last week at Talladega to safely secure himself and level up where Kevin Harvick is after stage 2 basically. I do agree, however, Harvick is the one to watch for. Logano and Harvick seems to lead the most laps at these 1.5 mile / 267 laps races and finish in the bottom half of the top 10 or 15 in the end. Strange how that turns out in recent years. Team Penske drivers Brad Keselowski won Kansas in the spring earlier this year and Ryan Blaney won last week at Talladega. Joey Logano's turn to win? 6. Roush seems to be trending downward over the past few years (though Newman has had a resurgence in 2019), while JTG seems to be headed in the opposite direction. I think Stenhouse will have more success at JTG than Buescher will have with Roush, though I doubt either will make the playoffs (at least not next year) or win a race. 15. Ever since Kenseth ran a partial schedule last year, followed by Newman this year, we've seen dramatic improvements with the #6. By bringing Buescher back, I think the #17 will show similar improvements next year. On the other hand, JTG has seemed stuck in about the same place over the last few years. I think Buescher has been getting more out of the equipment than Stenhouse will. 16. This will take a hit for Harvick for sure starting last in 40th. Brad Keselowski (starting 4th) will certainly make some gains however with 4 races to go I doubt anyone will catch Harvick unless Harvick goes on a timeless streak like today... I didn't watch qualifying so maybe someone can mention what happened. Another Playoff contender last week at Talladega also started last, which was Denny Hamlin. His engine blew on the backstretch before he could complete his lap. Did the same happen to Harvick this week? Second week in a row a Playoff contender starts last after qualifying without posting a qualifying time! 36. Sector posted: 10.19.2019 - 3:40 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This race is a little different than the previous 3-4 races, as each of the past 4 races leads to a first to last (either finishing or starting) positions. This entire round of 12 Playoff has been giving us that trend. 4 races ago Chase Elliott won at the Charlotte ROVAL to conclude the Round 1 Playoff, he also led the most laps in that win. He begins the Round of 12 by finishing last (38th, engine failure) at Dover. Denny Hamlin has started on the pole. He led the most laps as well. He proceeded to start last (40th, engine failure) at Talladega. Denny did come out with a third place finish here. Kevin Harvick started on the pole at the first Kansas race earlier in the 2019 season. Kevin also led the most laps then. Now, later in the season for the second Kansas race and the last round of the Round of 12 Playoffs, he starts last. 37. Harvick dropped from an average start of 7.5 prior to this race to 8.6 after starting last due to unable to qualify for this race failing inspection multiple times. Since entering a new era for Jimmie Johnson back in 2017 (the beginning of his struggles by not running up front often), Jimmie Johnson now has scored his 12th Top 10 finish. Breaking a tie from 2017 and 2018 when he also had 11 Top 10 finishes. Martin Truex, Jr becomes the fourth driver to score 20 Top 10's in 2019 joining Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick and Denny Hamlin. Toyota matches their most wins in a single season with this win also. They won 16 races in both 2016 and 2017, as well as winning the manufacturer's championships both seasons. Denny's win here at Kansas is the manufacturer Toyota's 16th win of 2019, and with 4 races ago after this race, has time to break their personal career record. Four drivers have won for Toyota this season (Truex, Busch, Hamlin and Erik Jones) so far. 2017 also had four drivers winning for Toyota while 2016 had five. The difference 2019 has from 2016 and 2017? All 16 wins in 2019 came with Joe Gibbs Racing. 2016 and 2017 had an additional team Furniture Row Racing driven and winning with Martin Truex, Jr. 244. Other than giving a team a stronger motor (which obviously Chase did not have), how do you dictate the race?" Cautions! When and when not to call them. In this case how quickly it's called. Had Hamlin already been past the start/finish line we all know NASCAR would wait and see the aftermath before calling it. "This is why NASCAR not only implemented the playoffs, but racing "overtime"." Those (among other things) were implemented by and for those who hate racing. Neither attracted the latter while millions of diehard NASCAR fans were pushed away. None of them can admit their precious "enhancements" have ruined the sport. "Not that I actually believe any of this, I just wanted to know what it feels like to be mentally handicapped." Being mentally handicapped is believing an entity with a widely acknowledged history of throwing fake debris cautions to "spice things up" is on the level. 284. Tarheel posted: 10.21.2019 - 3:53 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 283, to spice things up, yes. That's what stage racing is all about, along with many other cautions. To determine the outcome? No. Things easily could have been different on that last restart, Chase could have had a bad restart and lost positions while Brad could have gained positions, and Chase would have been out of the playoffs. Thinking that Nascar can predict the outcome of five wide racing is a mental handicap. 288. Lots of storylines, exciting actions, unpredictable outcomes and winners, tempers flaring across all 3 series are freaking awesome. I can't stand for everyone solely because we're all different human beings, but I'm sure having fun. 291. Mile501 posted: 10.21.2019 - 6:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @286 - No one says that. We all know NASCAR does things to try to increase excitement. What they don't do, however, is have a grand conspiracy to benefit a certain driver. That's the issue here. 292. possum posted: 10.21.2019 - 10:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @281 - the "reaction time" is very variable, depending on whether it's an obvious wreck, a spin into the grass, or a brush of the wall with no obvious damage (that one they're pretty slow on, because someone has to decide "do we need a caution now"?). Generally NASCAR is slower to put out the yellow coming to the white flag except in the case of an obvious wreck. And on the last lap there pretty much needs to be a car in the catch fence before they'll throw the yellow (which, of course, blows the whole "no racing back to the yellow" arguement all to hell, but that one never made much sense anyway). 293. I'm writing normal comments all the time. You just don't see it that way, that's the problem. 283. Yes, that reaction time is very variable. I remember that during the 2014 DAV 200 at Phoenix, Kyle Busch was like 50 meters from taking the white flag and they threw a caution for a car that hit the wall, but wasn't endangering any other cars on the track. They robbed him big time in that race. 293. Any other better example of a villain that is successful as hell? And yes, Kyle Busch has to be mentioned, because he's literally in every stat category, so using him somewhere as an example is pretty common. 295. Sector posted: 10.22.2019 - 1:10 am Rate this comment: (0) (1) #293 NASCAR is rigging Xfinity for Kyle Busch. Mannoroth posted: 10.22.2019 - 12:05 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 295. Well, if they do it in Trucks as well, Kyle Busch will shut his KBM down and the Truck Series will suffer big time without him and his team. I wouldn't be surprised at all, if they later merged Xfinity with Trucks to save some money... 297. ThatGuy posted: 10.22.2019 - 12:31 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @296 definitely will suffer. It didn't take the hit I thought when Brad shut his truck team down, but it did force ThirSport to switch from Toyota to Ford. If Kyle shut down KBM, I expect DGR-Crosley would become one of the big 3 teams in trucks 298. Mannoroth posted: 10.22.2019 - 2:48 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 297. BKR wasn't such a dominant team as KBM, so it didn't have a big impact on the series. KBM pumps a lot of money into their Truck Series program (that's why Brad Keselowski always lost to Kyle except that 2014 race at Bristol, by the way), so it would be stupid to get rid of this elite team just because some people have a problem with Kyle's 5 starts each season... 298. Sure, but before Kyle, it has its elite drivers and series veterans. Nowadays, this series is just about rich kids that are trying to make a name for themselves. And when Matt Crafton or Johnny Sauter retires, there won't be any series veterans, just those rich kids and Kyle Busch. And it's pretty crazy how the level of competition got worse through the years - Kyle can make just 5 starts and easily be in the top 20. That would be literally impossible 10 years ago. 299. Exactly. 301. It's just not their way of doing things. However, they'll definately make calls to punish drivers or owners they're displeased with, as Junior (meaning, of course, Johnson) could tell you at length. 304. ThatGuy posted: 10.22.2019 - 8:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @302 To counterpoint, those guys would be 8th & 9th if it wasn't for the playoffs. Harrison spent much of the year ahead of Austin Hill & Sheldon Creed in the standings as well. I think the engines have leveled the playing field more, but also perhaps KBM has its worst full time drivers yet. The series wouldn't implode, but can you really rely on DGR-C and Hattori to give people like Eckes, Deegan, Gibbs or any other Toyota prospect the opportunity KBM can? And considering Toyota has more developmental drivers than the others combined, it wouldn't be good 305. Mannoroth posted: 10.23.2019 - 7:34 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) 304. So if NASCAR keeps playing it smart, they won't completely ban Cup drivers in lower series (at least not in Trucks) and young talented drivers will still have a great chance to prove themselves in the best team of the series. And if Kyle Busch and Greg Biffle were running full-time for the Truck title, others most probably wouldn't have any chance against them, because those two are literally undefeated this season. KBM is still strong as hell - we just don't see it, because Harrison Burton with Todd Gilliland aren't anything special (yet). It also shows that K&N Pro Series success doesn't mean anything in NASCAR's top 3 series. 306.
