Nothing pops out about the field, and everything is orderly in the lineups. Though, Timmy Hill's car/Carl Long's team still exists, gladly. He works too hard to have to shut down his team. 2. Hamlin looks to repeat back to back, and be the first since 2009 with Matt Kenseth to do so this weekend. Ryan Blaney came inches to an overshadowed Daytona 500 victory, but to no avail. He now tries to win at the track sponsored by his own sponsor, Pennzoil. Martin Truex Jr., master of the 1.5 mile tracks, seeks his 13th win on a 1.5 mile track, who has led 1337 laps in those wins, an average of 133.7, or nearly half of this tracks length. Just some fun stuff to throw around to lighten up the mood from last night's wreck. 5. A couple say that Briscoe is the obvious choice, but I doubt it. I think Roush needs a veteran driver and not a development driver in the Xfinity series. The drivers I could see a possibility are: David Ragan (Who I think it's the most likely), Matt Kenseth, Greg Biffle, and Paul Menard. Some possibilities include, Matt Crafton, and Johnny Sauter. But to me it's probably going to go down to Ragan, Kenseth, and Biffle. 9. He's been exclusively driving Chevys the last couple years because he's still under a development contract with CGR. Assuming he gets Kaulig (and to a lesser extent, Niece)'s blessing, I don't really see anything that would prevent him from stepping in in this situation. Chip doesn't currently have a seat for him and would likely be okay with it. I'd assume he'd still drive the 77 at Charlotte since that deal was previously announced, though. 36. As for the 36/Rick Ware racing. It seems that is being raced as a partnership between Front Row and Rick Ware Racing. What I read was Front Row was planning on fielding the #36 for Daytona and Talladega (with David Ragan most likely), then Rick Ware will field the team in the other races. As for the 6 team. I don't see Matt Crafton driving it. He seems happy to just run the truck series. And both times that he ended up driving in the cup series, was because of a issue during race weekend (Busch broke his leg, Tift had the seizure) and wasn't really notice to get a driver. I think Regan is probably the best choice to get for a replacement. I think Roush has a good relationship with Ragan still. Even once UPS left and left Ragan without a ride, he helped get him into Front Row to drive, plus with Front Row being Aligned with Roush, he probably would know enough about the team, compare to someone (briscoe, Cindric) who never worked with the team before 47. Mile501 posted: 02.19.2020 - 9:57 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) @46 - See #43. Ragan has already said he will not be driving this weekend. Also, I believe the deal with Ragan and the #36 was only for the Daytona 500. I don't think he plans to race any more. And with him being a family man, watching Newman's crash right in front of him Monday evening--I could be wrong, but I really doubt that he would want to do any more plate racing at this point in his life. 48. NASCAR unofficially discourages that kind of antic heavily now. Today's drivers having permission to miss a race and still be able to make the playoffs under the current championship system, which seems to consistently downplay points, is designed to be a not too subtle encouragement for drivers to sit out a race or two after injuries, concussions, or other issues. 58. The top 3, which are all running fairly close together, include a Hendrick Chevy (#9), a Gibbs Toyota (#19), and a Penske Ford (#12). It is a nice day for Hendrick all around so far. Near the end of stage 2, all 4 Hendrick cars are running in the top 9. Ross Chastain has been running around 10th-15th for much of the race which leads me to believe that Newman has indeed been getting as much as possible out of that #6 car over the last year. 209. I know I saw what looked like at least one car slipping up the track, and it looked like the #6, but apparently FOX missed it. Also, for those bashing Chastain for a "pathetic" day, should we remind you that he ran very competitively in the first stage and got a stage point with a 10th-place showing at the end of the stage. This all in his first race in a Roush Ford, a team that has fallen in recent memory after being one of the top teams in the mid-2000's. With performances like today, they'll be lucky to get half of that. As far as Chevy goes. Much was made about the Chevy's changing their body's after only two seasons. We should probably think of them as a B-Spec. It's a similar body, just with modifications that addressed the problems the previous version was giving them. The leader getting out front and taking off by 3-4 seconds or more and no way he could be caught, no matter who it was. I have to say, today was so good to see. I hope it continues. Leader got out front if they were faster. Faster cars could pass. Lots of side by side racing. The restarts were insane in a good way. If you were hooked up you made gains. Cars seemed to actually go away at times. Tire wear actually made a difference (I hate when tires mean nothing), and the racing was just awesome today if you ask me. I hope it keeps up. In '86, Benny Parsons, Rick Wilson, and Sterling Marlin were all in the top-10 in points after the Daytona 500, however, neither of them raced in the Miller High Life 400 at Richmond. I'm not sure if there has been another time since then, someone could fact check me if they wanted. It's the race where Dale Earnhardt and Darrell Waltrip's rivalry peaked when they got together with three laps to go and Kyle Petty won his first race as a result of it. The crash dealt a major psychological blow to Waltrip. Earnhardt beat out Waltrip for the championship that year.
