He was 14th when the caution flag came out with 2 laps left yesterday, so let's hope he can continue it again! He broke his own record at the 2nd Darlington with a 3rd place-finish. He's the most consistent driver on the tour now with 12 consecutive Top 10's! 3. Still impressive though. 5. Sector posted: 05.25.2020 - 4:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The starting lineup is an inversion of Sunday's Coca-Cola 600 event (The Top 20), while positions 21st to 40th remain. In fact, due to Jimmie Johnson's disqualification on Sunday this will be Johnson's first time starting in position number 40, and only the second time starting dead last (he started last in 43rd at 2013 Loudon). This is the second week in a row that the inversion starting grid takes place, following last week's two Darlington events. 6. He did win two straight Xfinity races in 2014 and it was the only time he won two straight NASCAR National series he started in until tonight and Tuesday. And Get this the last time NASCAR raced on a Thursday in 1985 Bill Elliott was 2nd at Daytona not tonight. Footnote glad to see Stenhouse in the Top 5 two top 5's in mile and a half races so far this year and that is a really good run. Wait did I hear Corey LaJoie first Charlotte Top 20 uh you forgot last year in the 600 he did that too in the Top 15 none the less oops. But by the way I think that's Kelly Blue Book's first NASCAR win in races they did. One more thing both races Chase Elliott won this week the Top 22 finished lead lap both races. Its the most on the oval in Cup since 2017. Not a record but close in a completed charlotte race that went the full distance in cup. It also helped that they only 208 lap instead of 400 laps. It would have been much better if Goodyear broght a tire that actually wore out. They also don't have the time to wait around. Got to get what you can get. If NASCAR wants mid-week race and/or double headers, then you might as well make one race shorter then the other. 260. Mile501 posted: 05.29.2020 - 8:10 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @262 - I've always felt like NASCAR needs a better point system that rewards wins and top 5s more, and such a point system might address your concerns as well. If, for example, the top 10 finishers earned points like this (100 80 70 60 50 45 40 35 30 25) and stage points remained as is, it would better reward strong finishes and make sure the race winner always earned the most points (though an occasional tie would still be possible). Unfortunately, NASCAR seems to prefer close structures with mainly 1-point increments to make things appear as tight, close and competitive as possible. 264. Bowman was the lone exception. But I am encouraged that a greater variety of drivers seem to be able to run towards the front, and we have a lot of young talent in the series right now. Whether it's this year or still a year or two away, I think we're going to start seeing more variety in victory lane in the not-too-distant future. 265. Frankly, trying to determine any sort of Big 6 this years will be a problem. People wouldn't consider Alex Bowman as part of the big 6. Yet, he has the most stage wins, and sits 4th in points. Can't we all agree that there isn't one this year? With Toyota's drop in performance and Chevy's rise, the competition has gotten closer. The line between the Top dogs and the midpack has blurred, with some guys crossing over said line. 266. Now the distribution of wins is 4-2-2 and I don't think it's likely to revert to being as unbalanced as the past year or two. Hendrick and Childress in particular seem to have finally gotten back to where they should be and if HMS's ridiculously bad luck turns around (last night was a good start) they just might win a lot of races this year because nobody would doubt that they now have the equipment to contend every week. Dillon, KuBu & Reddick might even get to Victory Lane before too much longer if things stay as level as they are. 269. The fandum has a short memory, back in 1998 Mark Martin and Jeff Gordon won 20 races between them. But that doesn't mean that JGR is running badly by conventional standards; they just aren't dominating -- for the moment. Sure Chevy has bounced back towards normalcy, but look at the seasons Harvick, Logano & Kez are having.
