This would be reduced capacity, only in places where local rules now allow it, and the decision is still being studied/not yet final. (I personally think this is a terrible idea, it's way too soon.) 8. Talladega, being kinda remote from larger cities, might be more practical. Plus there's more military around there, if they're just doing it for show. 10. RaceFanX posted: 06.02.2020 - 9:09 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) The NASCAR Cup Series returns to Atlanta to finally run the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500. Teams arrived at the track to run this race in March on its original date of March 15 as normal only for the novel coronavirus pandemic to really burst out as a national issue that shutdown all major sports in the United States. The NBA was the first to shut down March 11 after Utah Jazz player Rudy Gobert tested positive for the virus with the NHL following a day later and the NCAA cancelling the famous "March Madness" basketball tournaments. NASCAR's decision was first made to run without fans, then move the race up to Saturday, and then finally postpone it indefinitely and send everyone home when the pressure to shut down at the time became too great, starting off the series' extended break. Now two and a half months later NASCAR is back to finally get this race run. 15. We've have action in all 3 races coming back, as well as the stories to come with it. We have the stories where fans pick a side in a slowly brewing rivalry between Chase Elliot and Kyle Busch, we have the unbelievable feel-good story of Briscoe holding off the most successful driver in Xfinity history after a heartbreaking loss, only for him to break down at the finish line and praise God, and many more. Sector posted: 06.04.2020 - 6:17 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) #27 To be exact... Race 1 of Cup (Darlington #1): Kevin Harvick winning career win #50 after returning from the COVID-19 pandemic layoff. Race 1 of Xfinity (Darlington): Chase Briscoe had a wire to wire battle with Kyle Busch in the closing laps exchanging the lead, a great feel good story after his wife had a miscarriage, an emotional victory lane. Last lap pass also. Race 2 of Cup (Darlington #2): Kyle Busch crashes a hard charging Chase Elliott with a few laps to go before rain arrived, which caused a ton of flames between the two most popular drivers. It somewhat saved this race from being a "boring winner in Denny Hamlin, next!" moment. This was super competitive race nonetheless. Race 3 of Cup (Charlotte #1): Chase Elliott looks to redeem himself after losing the previous Cup race, only to lose it due to caution arriving from his TEAMMATE'S (William Byron) spin with only 2 laps remaining. He pitted, most others stayed out thus giving Brad Keselowski the usual "put himself in position to win despite not having the fastest car of the bunch." Two races in a row Chase lost wins at the "legendary tracks/events" at Darlington AND the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte. Race 2 of Xfinity (Charlotte): Kyle Busch had a crazy lead exchange with Austin Cindric, pulling off a last lap pass win after losing in a last lap pass to Briscoe at Darlington the week prior. Race 1 of Truck (Charlotte): Chase Elliott's first Truck start in a couple of years, came to target the "Bounty" set by Kevin Harvick to end Kyle Busch's winning streak (7 entering this race). Chase Elliott prevailed, in an interesting fashion that he is the one that ended Kyle's winning streak after Kyle wrecked him at Darlington prior. Race 4 of Cup (Charlotte #2): Chase Elliott finally wins a Cup race, right after he wins the Truck race the day before. This is sweet redemption after losing two of the biggest races in Cup prior to this race. That "bad luck" finally went away. Race 5 of Cup (Bristol): Chase Elliott drove hard into the corner and wrecked himself and Joey Logano out of the lead with a few laps to go, giving yet Brad Keselowski another "put himself in the position to win again" victory. Created some steamed between the two on pit road. Race 3 of Xfinity (Bristol): Noah Gragson wrecked Justin Allgaier while battling for the lead (both are teammates too). Kyle Busch's first broadcasting along with brother Kurt Busch, which was very, very entertaining. I will say this; The fact that Chase Elliott and Kyle Busch has been literally a part of every story in each races since they returned to racing (with the exception of the first Cup race in which Kevin Harvick dominated) has certainly helped. 36. At that time in 2000 they ran on ABC, ESPN, CBS, TNN now Paramount Network, and TBS, 4 of those networks it was there last seasons though Turner sports stayed with NASCAR until 2014 with TNT, while ESPN and ABC came back in 2007 and stayed until 2014. But its good they're trying to help everyone given the cirumstances. and make sure everyone gets the same amount of races they was supposed to get before this happened. But I as a race fan sure at least glad for the first time all year I get to play three as in three races in one day including IndyCar's comeback, and fist race on NBC for two of the networks a rarity two motorsports races on the big networks on a Saturday. But what else will we get for a little while. As if I don't want to see them anyway cause motorsports is only thing I see these days I enjoy for the most part. 54. Roush was declining when he came to the Cup Series, and other than plate races he's never been in a car that could consistently run up front. I see him as a less talented version of Ernie Irvan, all too frequently out of control. If he was put in the 48 or a similar quality ride, I think he would win some races but also give the team fabricators plenty of headaches. 307. When push comes to shove the drivers now don't care to race each other hard. Edwards got Busch at Richmond in 2016. I've seen the 22 and 2 race each other hard late in races. The 18, 19, and 11 race hard when it comes down to it and the 14 and 4 have had some battles. 308. Last year's race at Atlanta earned 5.1 million viewers, but it was the second race of the season, and that date traditionally has big numbers coming one week after the Daytona 500. 309. For whatever reason Atlanta tends to produce some really boring races in the last decade and this dud takes the cake in 2020. 310. I really don't like Atlanta with the current aero package. It needs high downforce, so that drivers can make moves & slide around the track. 311. With the rain delay adding onto the 600 miles of boredom, it felt like the longest race I've ever watched. To be fair, this race actually wasn't that bad until the final stage when Harvick ran away with it, then it became boring. 313. This year's Coke 600 went 608 miles because of overtime, and that's the longest race in NASCAR history (distance-wise.) We also saw pretty much the longest race time-wise a few weeks ago at Texas (time from green to checkered, except the 1973 Bristol race.) I don't really count the '73 Bristol race in the same category, though, since they left the track (whereas the teams & drivers stayed in Texas until the conclusion of that race.) 2020 really has been quite a year... 314. Of course, in terms of time for modern-day races, I don't think any of them compare to the 2005 Coca-Cola 600, which lasted over 5 hours. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
