Those races from 2004-2019 had excitement for the 4 drivers or however many were involved at the time, but there was always a hands off policy for the other drivers because we sure don't want some eliminated driver taking one of the critical ones out even by accident. Which usually made the races pretty mundane for fans of the other 36 or so drivers. Since the entire season isn't on the line this weekend maybe the racing will be better if for no other reason than the broadcast won't be focusing on just 4 cars 90% of the time. There can be wide open racing all over the track with none of the hands off stuff except perhaps for one certain newly important car. 10. Xfinity will have practice on the Indy road course (as well as rain tires). (For those not aware Talledega will have a new aero package so they have to test it out that's why practice.) From Mike Joy regarding the lack of practice/qualifying for the foreseeable future: Every team would need to bring a backup car, which means more people have to be at the shop to prep cars. They would also need more crew at the track to be able to repair practice crash damage, etc. 21. In the XFinity Series it's different when #BOOOOOOOOOO comes in and ruins every race, that should NOT happen and neither should this new era Truck Series reign Chase Elliott is trying to create this year... 25. However, it would be interesting if NASCAR threw in at least a little variety. Maybe the highest-finishing team from the 13th-24th or 25th-36th group could get rewarded with a better starting spot for the next race. @25 - I wholeheartedly agree. Is this 2020, or 1984? 28. Yes, it will be very strange, because Homestead is now a normal race just like others during the regular season. It's all about the win, championship doesn't matter. But I suppose that those drivers you mentioned will be strong either way, because it would be really strange, if they suddenly ran bad at the same track, where winner was taking it all and they were nearly unbeatable. On the other hand, at least it won't be an invisible win like it used to be before 2014. No one cared about the winner. It was all about the champion. 38. Mile501 posted: 06.12.2020 - 12:01 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I wish I could give comment #34 multiple thumbs up. Almirola's 2nd-place starting streak will come to an abrupt end as he fell out of the top 12 in points with his battery issue at Martinsville and will start 21st at Homestead. Meanwhile, Jimmie Johnson climbed back into the top 12 in points for the first time since his DQ at Charlotte and will start 9th. Matt DiBenedetto was the big loser in this qualifying draw. He is only 10 points out of 12th, but will start 23rd. 39. possum posted: 06.12.2020 - 7:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @38 - I wish I could give it multiple thumbs down. Looney Toons cartoon episodes that show Elmer Fudd with a gun hunting Bugs Bunny and Yosemity Sam with a gun have also been pulled. I'm being completely serious. As someone stated, PAW Patrol is about to be cancelled. Gone With the Wind, which has aired since 1939, has also been pulled from TV because it deals with slavery in the south. 45. Mile501 posted: 06.13.2020 - 7:30 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Homestead has indeed become one of the best 1.5 mile tracks on the circuit, because the drivers can take so many different lines around the track rather than having to stay in one low groove. 46. Elmer just know has to hunt with a scythe. While, they are going after Paw Patrol, nothing has been determined, and hopefullly nothing will. ?Gone with the Wind? is only temporary. They are just going to add a disclaimer stating the prejudism in the movie is wrong, but the movie itself will come back unaltered. 47. possum posted: 06.13.2020 - 11:27 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @42 - in it's original configuration Homestead was one of the worse. It was designed as a 60% scale copy of Indianapolis, which probably would have been a great idea if we raced 60% scale cars on it. With full size cars it was a disaster for both NASCAR and Indycars. In it's current configuration, with fairly worn pavement, it's a technically challenging track that can give some good racing. It's probably as good as you'll get with today's excessively aero-dependant cars. 48. Ryan posted: 06.13.2020 - 2:42 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @44 Like button. Yes, it's ridiculous. @42, 45, 47 I really wish they didn't change the original Atlanta layout, but of course NASCAR/SMI saw dollar signs in building condominiums there and almost completely rebuilt the track. It was a fun and challenging track then. It hasn't been paved since it was reconfigured and now it's challenging because of the track being so abrasive and hard on tire wear, but I miss the original layout. 49. Its one of the only 1.5 milers not to feature the cookie cutter layout and produces at least 3 lines of racing no matter the series. Is it just fashionable to bash 1.5 mile tracks? Some of them aren't that good but Homestead is arguably the best 1.5 mile track in the series. 52. possum posted: 06.13.2020 - 3:28 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @48 - agree. While reconfiguring Homestead was necessary, most of the other track changes have been regrettable (altho Richmond as a 3/4 has been good). One I particularly think was unfortunate was changing Texas - as built it was a real challenge, but a group of drivers bitched and moaned that it was too hard, and so it got revised into just a copy of Charlotte. @49 - not wanting to suggest any shade of hypocrisy here, but isn't your favorite driver a millenial? (and before anyone gets fired up, that's said with a smile) 53. MassachusettsMira posted: 06.13.2020 - 4:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @44 The generalization game sure is fun! All millennials are triggered liberal snowflakes. All NASCAR fans are racist Southern rednecks. All cops are bastards. See how generalizations are problematic and incorrect? Social media has an unfortunate tendency to amplify a vocal minority, as provocative and extreme opinions receive more attention, which results in the creation of stereotypes. If you actually meet millennials in real life and do not judge your opinions on them based on the media, you will find that most are perfectly reasonable individuals. Most millennials do not want Paw Patrol canceled or Gone With the Wind retroactively erased from history. Like others have mentioned, there is a high likelihood that tomorrow's race will be affected by inclement weather and NASCAR has not yet announced what the plans are if the race is rained out. I presume the race would be rescheduled to noon Monday, but nobody knows for sure yet. 54. Also point out this Tyler Reddick's 4th place finish marked just the 2nd time since 2008 a driver with a 8 car finish Top 5. Christopher Bell got his best finish ever, and Michael McDowell has for the 1st time in his career 3 Top 15's in a 4 race span and Front Row Motorsports also achieving that, and Bubba Wallace as much like Reddick have soured a bit as a fan did get another Top 15 two in a row for him 2nd time he did that did that too at Daytona and Vegas.and Aric Almirola much needed run too. And I didn't know this like McDonald's Hooters themselves have had a long drought without winning a Cup race the last 1992 Pocono Alan Kulwicki and that win would be if I am not mistaken was his last career win. Like he's never knocked anyone out of the way. The man dived bombed his way to a championship in 2018, in which Martin Truex still calls that race at Martinsville "heartbreaking". Hopefully Chase keeps that in the back of his head when Logano needs him to move out of the way. Tbh, Chase should have just moved him out of the way. Chase needs to quit worrying about hurting people's feelings and go out and do what you have to do. Chase was making it interesting at the end. With his win in this race, Denny Hamlin ties Mark Martin with 40 career wins. Excluding Junior Johnson, who never made a serious run at a championship, these two drivers have the most career wins without a title. Based on comment 219, Tyler Reddick thought the race was over at the white flag. Mark Martin did something similar at Bristol in 1994, only with far worse consequences. 11 years ago to the day, Mark Martin won his 3rd of 5 races in 2009, the last winning season of his career. But in that race, he only led the last lap. 234. Foote posted: 06.15.2020 - 8:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) That was some busch league stuff by Logano altering the race for the lead, being petty. If it's the other certain driver, "disrespect lost, how ridiculous." In other words, Chase Elliott did some Busch league stuff to Logano at Bristol and it was okay because golden boy can do no wrong. Logano was already out of it for this race, so this was the perfect opportunity for him to cost Chase Elliott the win with nothing to lose for Logano tonight since he's already had a bad night. But hey, because he's 25th he's completely in the wrong while Chase Elliott gets a pass because he's part of the... Whoever worded it before perfectly... "good 'ol boys club with Blaney." 239. The crew clearly said white flag, but either Reddick didn't hear it, or misunderstood it as the checkered flag. Randall and Derek were basically screaming at him that it was the last lap, while Tyler was thanking the team. Finally as he came off of turn two, Reddick finally heard them, and got back in the gas. Thankfully, he maintained 4th, since he was way ahead of 5th, but that could've been a very costly mistake. As they were in 3-4 coming to the white, Derek was saying see if you can get him (Blaney), if not, still a hell of a night. Reddick might've taken that to mean that they were coming to the checkered. Otherwise, idk why he could've thought it was the finish 241. GoRC10 posted: 06.15.2020 - 3:15 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @238 Joey Logano also has a checkered history with many, many drivers. I don't agree that Chase is necessarily the "Golden Boy", at least not thorugh his own desires. He is an easy guy to pull for, however, because he isn't a cry baby Busch brother, or a whiney about lap traffic Truex Jr, or even an "it's everyone else's fault but mine" Logano type.
