Corey posted: 06.25.2020 - 1:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) From NASCAR.com NASCAR President Steve Phelps detailed Thursday afternoon via teleconference findings from NASCAR's internal investigation into the noose found in the garage stall of No. 43 driver Bubba Wallace at Talladega Superspeedway last weekend. A photo of the noose was released by the sanctioning body earlier Thursday, one day after an FBI investigation concluded that no federal hate crime was committed against Wallace, who is Black. ?Upon learning of and seeing the noose, our initial reaction was to protect our driver. We're living in a highly charged and emotional time. What we saw was a symbol of hate and was only present in one area of the garage and that was of the 43 car of Bubba Wallace,? Phelps said. ?In hindsight, I should have used the word ?alleged' in our statement. ?As you can see from the photo, the noose was real, as was our concern for Bubba. With similar emotion, others across our industry and our media stood up to defend the NASCAR family. Our NASCAR family. Because they are part of the NASCAR family, too. We are proud to see so many stand up for what's right.? NASCAR officials asked each track to walk their respective garages following Sunday's discovery. Across the 1,684 garage stalls at 29 tracks, NASCAR found only 11 total that had a pull-down rope tied in a knot and only one noose ? the one discovered Sunday in the No. 43 garage stall. Jenna Fryar did post a clear picture of the rope in question and it is in the shape of a noose. 19. JSPorts43 posted: 06.25.2020 - 1:27 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) What? JSPorts43 posted: 06.25.2020 - 9:38 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It certainly keeps things exciting. Starting position will be very important both Saturday and Sunday, since it's hard to pass at Pocono to begin with, and these are shorter races than they've ever run there. I wouldn't be surprised to see guys running 16th-20th on Saturday not try to improve their positions near the end of the race. 24. If you are going to do a draw, just put everyone in. 26. Mile501 posted: 06.26.2020 - 6:54 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) If NASCAR is committed to no qualifying right now (which they seem to be), there are other options for mixing it up a bit while still keeping things fair. I mean, we don't want a full random draw that could lead to Rick Ware cars starting up front--that could lead to disaster. My idea would be to reward the best-finishing drivers from the previous race. For example, maybe the top 15 qualifying spots could be determined by a draw that includes the top 12 drivers in points plus the 3 drivers outside the top 12 who finished highest in the previous race. For this race, that would include Stenhouse, Jones, and Buescher. Or, what if the top 12 drivers in points drew from numbers 1-15? Then the 3 numbers that don't get drawn would be available for the next group. I'm sure there are other possibilities as well where NASCAR could get a little more creative with qualifying procedures until things return to normal. 27. It's similar to how the draw for qualifying order used to be done - they'd have one more ticket than the number of cars entered, so the last guy to draw still had some suspense as to what number he'd get. @40 - NASCAR has pretty much admitted they have no control whatsoever of raceday scheduling. My guess is Canadian is right, FOX sees whatever they already have scheduled late in the day as being a bigger draw than a postponed race at Pocono. 42. Corey posted: 06.27.2020 - 4:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @41 I get that on the originally scheduled race day. But, what exactly does FOX have that's a bigger draw? This track rarely allows drivers to make passes easily, and with the slow package, it really drags on how slow and tedious this race is. Maybe the impending rain might make the race become more exciting, and the added bonuses of shorter race will spice things up, but it's probably going to be same old, same old. Usually Summer months are more calm, but I enjoy watching them just as much as any other race. Also, I haven't seen Christian around here for a while, but I saw a comment at the Kansas race in the playoffs in 2015 complaining about the same winners. Ryan posted: 06.28.2020 - 10:43 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm kind of surprised that no one really mentioned some of Harvick's pivotal moments during the race that got him in position to win. He was running fourth (behind three JGR cars of 11, 18, and Jones) when a caution came out for tire debris with 12 laps to go in stage 2. He was due to pit for fuel at least soon and decided to take four tires during the caution period. This set him up for only having to take two tires for his last stop in the last stage. Note: Almirola pitted on lap 20 of stage two and took four tires then after not stopping when stage one was complete while Harvick and several others did. After restarting 12th, Harvick moved up to ninth before the Jones and Reddick crash. After restarting on the inside of row five, Harvick expectedly (because of Almirola choosing the outside to lead the restart from as he did all day) fell back to 11th for a moment on the restart and he moved back up to ninth coming to one to go in the second stage. Hamlin tried to make a three wide pass coming to tunnel turn (2) on the 21 and 88 and this slowed the 88 and Hamlin down and during this exchange Harvick was able to get by Hamlin and then Kyle Busch (most importantly Hamlin) on the outside coming to the finish line at the end of stage 2 moving him up to seventh. The only car that pitted in front of him during the stage caution was Ryan Blaney, however, this was crucial because it put Harvick on the outside of row 3 on the restart in sixth due to where his SHR teammate Almirola chose to restart on the outside of row 1 as he had done the whole race when he was the leader. On the restart Harvick was able to pass the 88 before he got to turn 1 and then got by Truex on the outside coming out of turn 1. Harvick had major momentum coming off turn 1 and made a power move on the 21 and Joey Logano who were running side by side. Logano tried to block but to no avail Harvick cleared both of them through tunnel turn. Note: Looking back on the comments during the race feed I'm kind of surprised that no one mentioned the three wide move Harvick made to get to second. After moving up to second, Harvick was now in his teammate's tracks and his team had to know that Almirola was going to take four tires due not pitting for them since lap 20 during stage 2. Harvick of course had pitted close to the end of stage 2 for four tires and it only made sense to just take two tires and get him out in front of Almirola. If one would go back and watch they would see that Harvick got on pit road a lot better than Alimorla did as well. Another thing looking back at the comments is I'm surprised that so many thought Almirola had a horrible pit stop (maybe I shouldn't be). It was more that Harvick just took two tires. Harvick gained control of the race. After that the only obstacles Harvick might have would be if a caution came out or a hard charging Hamlin. No caution came out and Harvick was able to hold off Hamlin, even though Harvick would have some minor issues with lap traffic. The best car did not win this race but the best driver and team did. And regardless if this was a 325 mile race, 400 mile race, 500 mile race, or 100 mile race the rules were all the same for every driver and Kevin Harvick is now a winner at Pocono forever. The only current tracks he hasn't won at is Kentucky and the Charlotte Roval. Congrats on win #52, Kevin. 200. possum posted: 06.28.2020 - 11:38 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @199 - Hmm, I'm thinking about your comment "the best car did not win the race". In those laps since Harvick and Almirola pitted, Harvick opened the gap to Almirola despite Almirola having 4 new tires. And, when lapped traffic didn't play a role, Harvick was slightly (just a few hundreths) faster than Hamlin. So while Almirola might have had the best car early, certainly at the end of the race Harvick's car was as good, if not better, than anyone elses. 201. The next day on Sunday after this Saturday race, Denny Hamlin beats Kevin Harvick on strategy and both finished 1-2 yet again. 209. I didn't mean current performance, I meant their results and in that category, Kevin Harvick is still 4 wins and one championship away from him despite the fact he's currently faster and better than him. 207. He's complete, because he has won 99% of everything. Daytona 500 isn't the center of the universe as you like to think. It's not all that matters... When you look at the careers of various drivers, there are always some missing links. In Kyle's case, it's just a Daytona 500 win and a win at Charlotte Roval, which is a new track, so it's not that hot as that Daytona 500 win. And that's it. Others are missing a win on a lot of tracks and don't have the records Kyle have. 211. Ryan posted: 07.02.2020 - 6:20 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) LOL. The fact that you think a Charlotte Roval win trumps a Daytona 500 is comical. Ask your boy Kyle and see what he says about that. I promise you the race that Kyle wants the most is the D500, and I bet he thinks it's the center of the universe with all that he's accomplished so far. For someone as elite as him and he hasn't won it is the thing, it has nothing to do with me. I'm just stating what many other drivers, traditionalists and historians say as well, as does Kyle. He even said as much before the D500 in February and after he dropped out of the race. You can have all the Daytona 400 wins you want, but it doesn't compare to "The Great American Race". "He's complete, because he has won 99% of everything." Oxymoron. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
