The plot apparently has Kevin James as an old school NASCAR crew chief facing trouble after the team owner dies, leaves the team to his tech savvy millennial daughter (played by Jillian Mueller), and the new owner tries to modernize the team Moneyball-style while facing the realities of becoming a woman in a man's world. The other characters include an idiot driver played by Freddie Stroma who has a Ricky Bobby approach to driving, a car repair expert on the pit crew played by Gary Anthony Williams, a worrywart crew member played by Dan Ahdoot who likes the new stuff, and Sarah Stiles as a behind the scenes member of the team who tries to help James' character and might be a love interest. NASCAR itself is apparently helping to produce the series. However it turns out it has to be better than "Herbie: Fully Loaded." Given the NASCAR race car isn't a 1960s VW Bug we already seem to be out to a decent start. 5. 52 posted: 08.04.2020 - 2:43 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @1 NASCAR is typically not in favor of teams switching numbers for one off races. 6. thog posted: 08.04.2020 - 2:51 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 74 is also on the entry list: https://i.imgur.com/lko16ZT.png 7. JSPorts posted: 08.05.2020 - 9:44 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) The number thing can just get confusing from time to time, that's all. This will already be the 3rd time this season we've seen a team use a different number than their usual one. The Ware #53 was run as #36 at Daytona for David Ragan. Then, Ware's #52 switched to #27 midway through the year. Makes keeping track of points just a little more confusing for the casual observer. Of course, I wish they'd just get rid of charters and let the fastest 40 cars each week race, which would make which number you use obsolete. I also wish the owner's championship was for actual teams rather than each car (so only a team's highest-finishing driver would earn them points for that race.) Eliminating charters and making it a true team championship would make this not matter at all. You could show up with a new car number, and if you were fastest 40, you'd be in. Spire would still earn points for the team championship with the #74, because it would be the highest-finishing Spire car. 21. Should drivers be required to attempt all 36 races in the same car (barring injury or something else)? Should a car be painted one way with the same sponsors all season? The more restrictions like that NASCAR puts on teams just make the sport more like F1, which is not the way I (or most fans, I believe) want to see NASCAR go. Look back at the old days of the sport - drivers frequently won championships while driving different car numbers, manufacturers, with different sponsors for different teams. Even look at the sport's biggest period of growth (around 1995-2005). There were way more part-time cars & drivers then than there are now, and it certainly didn't matter to all the new fans then. 25. The question is why it's now being referred to as 312 miles instead of 500km (in press releases and other wise). Generally NASCAR prefers to use km, to make a race appear to be longer; in this case tho they likely did not want to make the race look longer than the original 400mi, thus the emphasis on 312 miles instead of km. 28. We will get the field to choose at the call from the tower of ?one to go,' and we do that sometimes at remote locations on a road course so we can get back to green quicker, and we wouldn't have the ability to sort of manage the choose with the remote ?one to go' location, so we won't be able to manage that so we opted out on the road courses.? 40. At Pocono, the outside usually has an advantage on the restarts in turn 1. Also, this rule will allow drivers to choose who they line up behind, as well, so they could choose to pair up with a teammate rather than starting beside them. Whose to say that a non-playoff teammate won't pick the worse option in order to give his playoff teammate an advantage? We've already seen this play out once in the 2018 Championship race. As far as fans understanding it, Bristol was a bad example because the caution laps are too short to explain who lined up where to fans. I don't understand why Chase Elliott did not choose the bottom of the racetrack. I would have like to have seen him go for the win, maybe he felt like he didn't have anything for Harvick and his car was more effective in the top than on the bottom but that just didn't work. I'm okay with the choose rule but if you make the wrong decision like Chase did, then that's where I got an issue. 200. Celticracer posted: 08.09.2020 - 12:35 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @Evan the puzzling thing about Elliott not choosing the inside was he'd already used it earlier to take the lead. He definitely should have went for it seeing he's already in the Chase. 5 playoff points could've also come in handy. Harvick was super strong but I think he should've at least gone for it. 201. He won at Darlington in the Busch Light #YOURFACEHERE car, at Atlanta he won in the Busch Light #ForTheFarmers car, at Pocono he won in the Busch "Heard for the Mountains" car, at Indy he won in the Busch Light Fireworks (Independence Day themed) car, and at Michigan he won in the red colored Busch Light Apple car. Here's hoping that he races at Phoenix in a Busch Beer themed car. Congrats on #54 Happy. 202. With 9 total cautions, Houff and Hill each received 1/3 of the total free passes given. 204. Mile501 posted: 08.09.2020 - 9:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) By finishing on the lead lap in 26th, J.J. Yeley scored Rick Ware Racing's first-ever lead lap finish on an intermediate track in the 1.5-2 mile range. And he only received 1 free pass at the end of the longest green-flag run; he stayed on the lead lap on his own through the rest of the race. 205. Ryan posted: 08.09.2020 - 10:28 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @205 That's a reach. He was in good equipment in 2006 and 2007. The only excuse is in 2008 JGR switched to Toyota. They had been preparing hard for the switch in 2007. On a side note, JGR's experience and move to Toyota saved Toyota's effort into the sport. They were so slow with other teams when they came in Cup in 2007 although it was with third tier teams. JGR was still the second team at GM during 2007 behind Hendrick, so after their contract was up with GM in 2007 Gibbs made a big and risky move to go to Toyota in the middle of the year and the move had already been made before there was an official announcement. I highly doubt that Toyota would still be in the sport if not for JGR switching to them. The 2008 Toyota Camry in Nationwide/Xfinity was a dominant car winning 20 of 35 races including one stretch of eight straight wins. It helped that they had four future Hall of Fame drivers as well (Stewart, Busch, Logano, and Hamlin). In fact, the only Xfinity Series regular that won an Xfinity race that year was Brad Keselowski, another future HOF. Scott Wimmer won a race that year, but only raced in about 70% of the races. 207. There is one particular restart that I'm thinking of. It's the one where Chase Elliott was 5th and the Top 4 all choose the outside. Jeff Burton called Chase's choice of the inside a gamble and I'm assuming he was going by which lane had the advantage. I believe it was an obvious choice with better outcomes when you look at it from a purely position standpoint. In reality Chase took the inside and went on to take the lead making it the best possible outcome. If he had fell back on the restart, a positive outcome could still be gained by being 2nd-4th and a push situation if he dropped to 5th. Even dropping to 6th might have been better or equal outcome compared to taking the outside. Now say he took the outside and restarts essentially 10th. He would need to pass 5 cars just to get back to where he originally was just to break even. Given the restarts yesterday, 10th was also in a hornets nest of cars and he could have easily fell to 15th. 210. However with sports on Saturday only the PGA Championship had higher viewers on ESPN and CBS. 2.028 million on ESPN and 3.281 million on CBS. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
