This might be the wildest double header yet because it's crunch time! 2. David posted: 08.18.2020 - 8:45 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Until 2018 Jimmie Johnson was always a force to be reckoned with at Dover. If he can figure out how to do it again, even just finishing near the front a couple of times, and then avoid disaster at Daytona next week he's got a very good chance to make the playoffs one last time. However it will as usual be a challenge for JJ or any Chevy to finish in the top 10, forget the top 5. If he does pull it off, unfortunately the driver that Johnson is most likely to knock out of the playoffs is his own teammate. 3. At the completion of this race, NASCAR will have made up all of their postponed races and will be back on schedule. Barring State restrictions, all races after Dover 1 will be held at their originally scheduled locations and dates. 4. 52 posted: 08.18.2020 - 9:45 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) James Davison is racing this weekend and at Indy?? In the 11 Dover races since then, he has just 2 wins, 4 top 5s, 7 top 10s, 134 laps led & an average finish of 13.5. That said, if Jimmie is going to win one final time, Dover would probably be the most likely place we'd see him do it. That's been his most successful track, with 11 wins in 36 starts and 3110 laps led. Jimmie has been successful at a lot of the remaining tracks: Dover: 11 wins Daytona: 3 wins Darlington: 3 wins Richmond: 3 wins Bristol: 2 wins Las Vegas: 4 wins Talladega: 2 wins Charlotte (Road): 0 wins Kansas: 3 wins Texas: 7 wins Martinsville: 9 wins Phoenix: 4 wins His only winless track remaining on the schedule is the Roval (Jimmie has 6 winless tracks of the 26 he's started races on.) Though he has 51 wins at the other 11 tracks, most of those came about a decade ago. I'd love to see him win one more race, though, and make the playoffs. 6. Corey posted: 08.19.2020 - 12:22 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @9 It was one of the few tracks that was scheduled to host two races with neither in the playoffs. As originally scheduled, there were four tracks like that: Dover, Pocono, Michigan and Daytona. Daytona has already run on of their events and Pocono was a doubleheader to begin with. NASCAR just went ahead and did the same with Michigan and Dover. Keep in mind two other things. NASCAR didn't want to mess with the playoffs and all track changes have been inter-company. The only other track Dover Motorsports has is Nashville. Trying to schedule that track in somewhere would have been a burden. 12. 1995-Subaru-WRX-Sti posted: 08.19.2020 - 1:00 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) "From Adam Stern: Several teams are advocating for @NASCAR to schedule a significant number of next year's Cup races as one-day shows, given the continued uncertainty and financial issues from coronavirus. ? And it has, by checking the contingency notes from Jayski. Kevin Harvick won the Busch Pole Award at Daytona. But NASCAR isn't counting it as a pole for official statistics. So contingency money earned, but not an official pole. It's rare but does happen that the two don't line up (usually because the official pole winner wasn't running a Bud decal). 24. Daniel Suarez is currently at 26 races. Despite missing the Daytona 500, Suarez has finished every other race of the season. His last DNF was a Crash at Kansas last October. But consider these facts: - The new JGR #11 team struggled mightily in 2005. In 19 starts, Jason Leffler only finished better than 18th once and failed to qualify at Charlotte. Terry Labonte ran a few races and did marginally better. Denny Hamlin was put in the car for the last 7 races of 2005 and instantly scored 3 top 10 finishes. He finished 8th at Martinsville in just his 3rd-ever Cup start and led 23 laps at Phoenix in a car that hadn't led that many laps all season. - In Hamlin's rookie season, he finished 3rd in the chase while his teammate (and reigning series champ) Tony Stewart narrowly missed the chase. Season-long, Hamlin and Stewart scored almost exactly the same number of points. - From 2006 through 2014, Hamlin was the highest-finishing JGR driver in the final standings in 7 out of 9 seasons. 89. Great job by Erik Jones to rebound for a 12th place finish. Chase Elliott may have won the race, had he not had the tire rub, in stage 1. Still his Minecraft Mountain Dew machine, keeps putting up numbers worthy of at least a round of 8 contender. Clint Bowyer was very impressive today. The white Ally scheme seems to be working for them, as Jimmie was consistently running top 10, for most of the day. I like the mindset Jimmie and Cliff have, of not worrying about points, and simply going for the win, where as last year, they were trying to get every point they could and beat themselves, allowing Newman to roll into the playoffs. Now, they've gotten in William and Chad's heads. Speaking of William, what the frick happened? 28th place, and no stage points? They were on par with Jimmie during the first 40 laps or so, then Jimmie started getting ahead, and Byron dropped off the face of the Earth. Chad and William were frustrated with each other. I'm sure Hamlin will be just fine going down as "the worst driver to win 40 races". 97. Since Bristol we're back to the 2018-2019 level of Chevrolet non-competitiveness aside from perhaps road courses, plate tracks and the once-in-a-blue-moon other flukes. In other words, isn't it funny how the collective "talent" level of a group of drivers can change so quickly at NASCAR's whim? 101. Nothing peculiar happened in 2015 when The Gibbs Boys suddenly vaulted from mediocrity to dominance week after week starting with the new rules package that was installed at Kentucky. That's just a coincidence. Nothing peculiar happened starting in 2018 either. It just so happened that these guys all simultaneously forgot how to drive, and that's just a coincidence too: - Jimmie Johnson (3 wins in 2017 down to 0; top 5s cut in half; laps led down 80%) - Kyle Larson (4 wins in 2017 down to 0; laps led cut approximately in half) - Ryan Newman (1 win and 7 top 5s in 2017, down to 0 in both categories) - Jamie McMurray (17 top 10s in 2017 down to 8; from 12th in points to well out of the playoffs) Actually it was just those Chevy team engineers, who were all suddenly struck dumb and never could figure out that so-called new Camaro. 106. Undoubtably what he actually said was the right side of the track bar was lowering itself (there's only one track bar; the left end is fixed and the right end is adjustable up and down - but it's not susposed to adjust itself). I have huge sympathy for him, that would be almost impossible to diagnose during a race. Amazing that Harvick could finish 4th, considering. 111.
