Another unique qualifying combination for this race is since the Top 20 was simply an inversion of yesterday's race for this race's starting lineup, the new qualifying metric is still being used for positions 21st through 40th. 10. He is winning races instead of losing them with Ford. 2017 was a scratch year since Harvick specifically said they were spending the year to get used to the change and he was still third best. It may be meaningless in the way a NASCAR "stock car" relates to a real stock car, but the manufacturer is certainly not meaningless. Ford has won 14 times this season in 25 races. Toyota has 7 wins. Chevrolet has just 4, despite having the most cars in the field in every event so far in 2020. The manufacturer you drive for is still a very big deal. 109. Some fans actually pulled for different car makes rather than drivers a lot of the time from the 60's to the 90's. It seemed to me the Earnhardt (Chevy) vs. Elliott (Ford) vs. Wallace (Pontiac) rivalry during the late 80's was at its peak for that phrase you mentioned. During the 90's it was high as well, but of course NASCAR started making all the templates the same and made sure the cars looked about the same and it has went downhill. But you still have your diehard manufacturer fans. Of course I was Chevrolet for years because of Earnhardt and Harvick and my family would only buy Chevy or GM, but after the 2008 Recession we've mainly bought imports for the most part. I hated to see Harvick leave Chevy and go to the blue oval, but I realized I was more of a Harvick fan than I was Chevy and as you mentioned the manufacturer rivalries aren't as heated or unique as they once were where the cars look about the same. But the idea hasn't totally left all the fans just yet. 110. possum posted: 08.23.2020 - 10:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @106 - if Stewart is "literally a Chevy guy" why is there a Ford engine in his Sprint car? 111. The difference is Harvick has started on the pole with a different starting lineup setup, Harvick has already started 1st twice this season prior but both poles weren't official poles. 114. Also apparently, Harvicks' first rides were in Fords anyway, which many forget. 116. If that holds true, the Beard Motorsports No. 62 entry will be in the show with @Brendan62. The 62 was passed in owner points by the 7 and 78 this past weekend at Dover #NASCAR. 117. Incidently, speaking of driver's first rides, Earnhardt Sr started in a Dodge. @109 - back in that era the cars not only looked like production cars, they actually were production car bodies (sometimes hand fabricated), and they ran with production car engines (at least the block & heads). People had a real connection between the car they drove and the car on the track. Today's cars, with a body that's obviously not a production car body, with an engine that's obviously (to anyone that cares about engines(*)) not a production car engine, don't inspire the same connection - they could just as easily be Dallaras powered by Ilmor. (* all three makes use engine blocks and heads specifically designed for NASCAR, with no commonality to the production engines) 119. Prior to 2020 he didn't win until race #25 in his rookie season in 2005. Now he has one race to go before the Playoffs start to get the victory at Daytona, otherwise this could very well be the first season of his career to go winless by the time the Chase/Playoffs started. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
