Richmond's a nice track if you likes your Toyotathons, and Saturday likely won't be any different unless Harvick spoils the parade again. 8. I wouldn't say that the track is better than Martinsville but they're both really close. We'll see how the race goes with the short track aero package, hopefully it'll revive Richmond's reputation of classic short track racing. 9. Plus, we didn't race at Richmond earlier this year. The last time the Cup race at Richmond occurred was last year in 2019; Truex won and swept both Richmond races then. Since then, he's also won twice at Martinsville for four straight wins in the Virginia state. 14. I feel clean air makes him faster than he really is. Look at Harvick for example. He doesn't stay stuck back in the teens, he fights his way to the Top 5. My reasoning is I looked at Ryan Blaney's track record at Darlington and Richmond. Ryan Blaney is terrible at the 2 tracks plain and simple based on his track history. Ryan Blaney's best career finish at Richmond in cup is 17th place. Ryan Finished 20th or worse at Richmond in Cup 5 out of his 8 cup starts here before tonight. As far as Darlington goes, Ryan only had 2 top 15 finishes here in cup in 8 starts. His best cup finish ever at Darlington is 13th. The problem is too many people going into the playoffs overlooked Ryan Blaney's history at Darlington and Richmond. I know Ryan has bonus points, but he was a risk not making it out of the first round before the 10 point penalty. 98. The race was made interesting, to whatever extent it was interesting at all, by the differing pit strategies that were used. There were no (real) cautions at all to interrupt the flow. This also helped mix things up at the front during the off-sequence pit stops, so much so that Chevy (which led 0 of 800 laps here in 2019) actually wound up in the lead on occasion. Elliott and KuBu led briefly only because of that factor, but Austin Dillon was impressive for the second week in a row and showed the kind of power we don't usually see from those guys. 120. Interesting. He didn't do a burnout, because he doesn't want to mess with the car. He wants to have this car for the season finale race at Phoenix if he makes the Final Four. He's 2 for 2 in race wins; He won with it earlier this race at Loudon, New Hampshire as well, also in dominant fashion. Watch out for Keselowski. It's his 34th career win, breaking the tie with Fireball Roberts for 24th on the all time wins list. It's his second win at Richmond, first dating back in 2014. Hamlin winning stage 1 breaks the tie with Kevin Harvick for most of the season currently. It's Hamlin's 8th stage win of 2020. Keselowski winning stage 2 ties Harvick with 7. Despite ending his Top 4 finishing streak last week at Darlington with an incident going for the lead with a handful of laps remaining, prior to that Martin Truex, Jr had 8 straight finishes in the Top 4. He picks up where he left off by finishing in the Top 4 again, finishing second. Additionally, Brad Keselowski's win and Denny Hamlin scoring enough points both locked themselves in for the Round of 12, joining Kevin Harvick who locked himself in with a win last week at Darlington. 122. The problem is Darlington and Richmond are Ryan Blaney's weaknesses in the cup series. Not every driver is good at every driver track although Richmond is puzzling to me on the cup side. I know Ryan's track record at Bristol and he did led over 400 laps there. Ryan also does good at Martinsville. The fact Ryan's best finish at Richmond in his cup career is 17th and that is red flag in his ability although it is puzzling. Ryan has top 10 finishes in every Richmond start in the Xfinity series. 127. An unusually clean race for Richmond as except for the 53 hitting the wall there were no incidents on track. Probably a 7/10 race in the end. 131. He was right and they did, leading just under half the race en route to the win. This is Brad's second win at Richmond and his first since 2014. NASCAR.com posted a video of the 1997 Virginia is for Lovers 200 Truck race to its YouTube page in the lead to this race weekend, mostly to celebrate the return of the Truck Series to Richmond earlier in this race weekend. That race was the only NASCAR Truck win for Bob Keselowski, Brad's dad, and they promoted it online as such. Looks like that flashback to the elder Keselowski's big win turned out to be a nice lead up to the the younger one's victory here. J.J. Yelled and the Rick Ware #27 Ford team ran a modified version of their 1997 Kenny Irwin throwback scheme from the Darlington Southern 500 in this race. Given how many heads Irwin turned here in the 1997 running of this race, albeit with a different paint job, it was an unexpected but fitting decision. 140. That's part of the reason why I felt like he would actually be a contender in the playoffs. The way things have turned out have been disappointing. Oddly enough, Austin Dillon has been known to have some strong runs when he does make the playoffs. In 2018, he started the playoffs by finishing 11th at Las Vegas and 6th at Richmond. Maybe making the playoffs gives him some extra confidence or something. @136 - What were Bowyer's comments about this race? I'm curious to know what he said because he usually tells it like it is. 144. Mile501 posted: 09.13.2020 - 7:53 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) For the second time in the last 5 races, Austin Dillon set a career high for laps led in a single race. Previously, his highest was 46 laps led at Daytona in July 2019. At Dover, a few races ago, he led a (then) career-high 49 laps. Then he topped that mark in this race, leading a career-high 55 laps. Dillon has also now scored consecutive top 5 finishes (2nd at Darlington, 4th at Richmond) for the first time in his career. 145. Good racing, with no accidents. I knew I would regret putting Dillon as a Round of 16 exit, this team is fast enough to reach the round of 8 146. Loved the stage lengths that changed strategy throughout the race. I really wish there were not any stage breaks since the strategy in this race would've been great. With plenty of comers and goers. Really excited to see how the Bristol race is. 147. Anthony posted: 09.13.2020 - 5:55 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) There were a few minor incidents that happened with no yellow. First the #43 Bubba bumped the #48 of Johnson in to the wall during stage 1, Jimmie came back and paid Bubba back and put the #43 up the track. Also the #53 of Davison bounced off the wall. 148. Brad Keselowski also achieved his 1,000 laps led at the Richmond track in the Cup series, his 192 led puts him at 1,152 total after this race. 149.
