Engineered chassis flex has been around for a while (I think it started in MotoGP back when they were still running 500cc two-strokes), but I hadn't really heard of anyone trying it in NASCAR. Drivers have a tendency to be very uncomfortable with it. 9. Sector posted: 09.15.2020 - 7:07 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Kevin Harvick (won Darlington), Brad Keselowski (won Richmond) and Denny Hamlin (points) each have nothing to lose, but everything to gain entering Bristol as they are advanced into the next round of the Playoffs. Unofficially, Brad Keselowski is the pole sitter, who carries momentum into Bristol as the most recent winner twice; He won the previous Cup race at Richmond last week, as well as the previous Cup race at Bristol earlier this season. Keselowski is looking to defend once again this weekend. Entering this race Ryan Blaney (minus 27 points back), Matt DiBenedetto (-25), Cole Custer (-8) and William Byron (-3) are the drivers outside the Playoffs cutoff line and are in jeopardy of failing to advance into the next round of the Playoffs. Clint Bowyer holds the 12th and final spot. 10. Chase9Fan posted: 09.15.2020 - 11:09 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) A bit nervous as a Chase fan. While he is sitting good, he isn't locked into the next round yet. Needs some stage points early to avoid end of race potential drama. 11. Let's just hope that he has a scot-free night and finishes good enough to get in or better yet....win. I honestly hope to see both him and Blaney or Matt D make it as they're my other favorites but only 1 of the latter will be able to. 12. Sector posted: 09.16.2020 - 8:33 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #10 Elliott has a 28 point cushion over Clint Bowyer, and 9th place provides 28 points (8th for 29 since last place grants 1 point). So yeah, Chase should go for the Stage points to extend the lead but he should also stay out of trouble. Meaning, no driving into Joey Logano like earlier this year. Don't forget, the last time we raced here was the All-Star race. Elliott won. 13. William24ByronFan posted: 09.16.2020 - 9:15 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Garrett Smithley now in the #78. 14. Corey LaJoie believes we'll know where Bubba Wallace will be driving sometime in the next 3 weeks. Both Denny Hamlin and Bubba Wallace are represented by PROSPORT Management and is something to keep in mind. Corey LaJoie said we'll know where he will be driving sometime in the next 3 weeks. He has a past with Richard Petty Motorsports and it is possible that they can work out a deal and he can drive the #43. He also did not rule out driving in the Xfinity Series in a competitive car for a 1 year deal; positioning himself to be signed for a cup car in 2022. Corey LaJoie said there is a low chance that Kyle Larson or Chase Briscoe replaces him in the #32. The Stewart-Haas alliance with Go Fas is only limited to some sharing of simulation data and the purchase of some cars from Stewart-Haas. He predicted that Kaz Grala could be driving the #32 for Go Fas. Corey LaJoie believes Erik Jones could end up in the #37 since the car is already set with sponsorship. Erik Jones does not have much sponsorship money. Corey LaJoie said he can see Matt Dibenedetto driving for the #42 if he gets the boot. Corey LaJoie said he can see Ty Dillon driving in the #43 since there is already an alliance there with Richard Childress Racing. Daryl Motte, one of the co-hosts on the Sunday Money Podcast asked if Corey LaJoie was going to drive for the #34. Corey LaJoie said Michael McDowell was doing a great job in the #34 and not much else was said. Not sure if there's more to this than what was being discussed. *PLEASE NOTE THAT NONE OF THE POINTS ABOVE ARE FACT. LISTEN TO THE PODCAST YOURSELF IF YOU HAVE ANY DOUBTS OR WANT MORE CLARIFICATION. 16. First double header sweep in NASCAR history at Michigan. First win at Pocono that was long overdue. First Bristol night win (I noticed in my #221 post I said Bristol was delayed the next night, it was the next day). Third win at Indianapolis, only the third driver behind Gordon and Johnson. First Southern 500 on actual Labor Day weekend. The Brickyard and Bristol Night race in my mind is like the Players Championship in golf "the 5th major", in this case there are two. You had two legends racing tonight like it was a crown jewel for sure. When coming off the corner the last 30 laps they were very loose and almost sideways several times trying to get every bit of speed they could. The last adjustment for Kyle was big because on a very long run he fell behind six seconds to Harvick. Early in the race you could tell them two had the best cars. Daytona Beach is where the founding a of NASCAR began, along with races on both the beach and the current Superspeedway. Indy may have more importance in the greater motorsports realm but that has historically been the home of Open Wheel Racing. That was only hyped due to the Winston Million Program and the fact that the series sponsor also sponsored the race. Once that all ended, any prestige status ended with it. If the race can't hold it on its own, then it doesn't belong. Yeah don't hear anyone in the industry calling it a crown jewel." I consider it to be one. On many driver pages on other websites winning the Winston 500/ or first Talladega 500 race is mentioned along with the Daytona 500, Coke 600, Southern 500, and Brickyard 400. Dale Jr. in my mind has five crown jewel wins. It was hyped up way before the Winston Million program came around. Many fans at the time liked that it was bigger and faster than Daytona, however, the France's made sure that Daytona stayed the "Super Bowl" race. It was considered a major race by all where it was faster and the 200 mph barrier was broken there by Buddy Baker in 1970. In fact, many Nascar historians consider the 1984 Winston 500 won by Cale Yarborough one of the greatest races of all time where it had so many lead changes and different leaders and the longest stretch of laps anyone led was by Harry Gant and that was 13 going into the final lap when Cale passed him on the last lap. Kevin Harvick's win there in 2010 also is considered to be one of the greatest races of all time there as well with 88 lead changes in 188 laps. It was actually aired during the Covid-19 on FS1 as under "NASCAR's Greatest Races". The fact you mentioned that it was sponsored by Winston should tell you how marketers, fans, media, and drivers felt about the race. That's kind of stupid to say that prestige ended there just because the Winston Million or No Bull Program ended. Just because you weren't around for it then doesn't mean it's not a major now. Many drivers and fans from the time period still consider it one of the biggest races of the year. I believe the race has held its own. How can you say it hasn't held its own where the Brickyard and Coke 600 usually produce boring races. It's usually the most exciting race of the year, like this year. An amazing finish for sure where Ryan Blaney won his first crown jewel. If anything the race has held its own over the years more than any other. Since you brought up the Winston Million program I will share with you why Winston and NASCAR chose those four races to be part of the Winston Million program. Daytona 500: Richest or most prestigious race Winston 500: Fastest track Coke 600: Longest race (would test cars durability) Southern 500: Oldest 500 mile race or "driver's" track In 1985, Bill Elliott made up two laps under green and won the fastest 500 mile stock car race at the time at 186+ mph without restrictor plates. In 1997, Mark Martin broke that record holding off Dale Earnhardt at 188+ mph with restrictor plates. However you want to spin it it's still the fastest track and in racing that's the name of the game... going the fastest. Talladega will always be prestigious because of being the fastest track. It's a crown jewel and will always will be because of that. 288. Indy wouldn't be mentioned for stock cars. It depends on who you ask. Also, neither one of them really experience the true meaning of a Bristol night race in their prime with so many fans Bristol could hold now. 289. What happened in those races between Pocono and Homestead? His wife's abortion and fake accusations of him cheating with some Monster Energy girl. Kyle Busch is not an Iceman, but his celebration was more like Scott Dixon's one from 2013. What happened in the first four races this year? A blown engine, which can happen even nowadays. A mediocre performance and two really solid finishes despite not leading a single lap. That is weird? No, that's a good feedback for future races. 278. Well, USA or Europe isn't the one who screwed up and couldn't keep it a local tragedy. People need to travel everywhere everytime, so no wonder we all have to struggle because of them. 282. That's also a normal circumstance, because injuries and crashes just belong to this sport. And it's his problem that he likes to race outside of the NASCAR world. Some people also accuse Kyle Busch of injuring himself just because he has to stick his nose into lower series all the time. But COVID-19 isn't a normal circumstance at all. 290. But the fact is that the Talladega Spring race does not hold the same special meaning that the other Crown Jewels hold. It's not a race that missing from drivers resume, nor does it get special mention at the Hall of Fame induction ceremonies. After Winston left, it became just another race on the calendar. If the tracks status as a crown jewel is that dependent on the sponsor, then it was never truly a crown jewel to begin with. 291. That was "NASCAR's fastest race" and put as a Crown Jewel as such alongside Daytona 500 (richest), the 600 (longest), and the Southern 500 (oldest superspeedway). 292. Of those 12 drivers, three have made the round of 12 in every season since NASCAR moved to this format. Those drivers are: Kevin Harvick, Brad Keselowski, and Kyle Busch. None of the 12 drivers are making their first appearance, and only three of the 12 were not in the field last year. Those drivers are Austin Dillon, Aric Almirola, and Kurt Busch. Below are the current streaks of round of 12 appearances by the 12 playoffs drivers with their total appearances in parenthesis: Kevin Harvick - 7(7) Brad Keselowski - 7(7) Kyle Busch - 7(7) Martin Truex, Jr. - 6(6) Chase Elliott - 5(5) Joey Logano - 3(6) Alex Bowman - 3(3) Clint Bowyer - 3(3) Denny Hamlin - 2(6) Kurt Busch - 1(4) Austin Dillon - 1(2) Aric Almirola - 1(2) Over drivers to make the round of 12: Matt Kenseth - 4 Kyle Larson - 3 Ryan Blaney - 3 Carl Edwards - 3 Jimmie Johnson - 3 Dale Earnhardt, Jr. - 2 Jeff Gordon - 2 Ryan Newman - 2 William Byron - 1 Ricky Stenhouse, Jr. - 1 Jamie McMurray - 1 Kasey Kahne - 1 295. And usually where there's smoke there is fire. He's got four podiums since the restart. Harvick has nine wins without practice. Impressive for sure. Him and Childers was big on feedback from practice as well. Hamlin the same and he has six wins. So what's your excuse for him winning at Homestead since you have some for why he hasn't won? 298. Yeah, I remember the infamous disgusted comment by Jarrett after he got into some oil, "I'm in the wall." Hey man, racing is about being fast and Talladega was/is the fastest track. It had absolutely nothing to with a sponsor as to why it was picked by NASCAR to be part of the Winston Million Program. If you want to call it an added bonus with Winston sponsoring then OK. Bill Elliott's and Earnhardt's success has been widely mentioned with their wins at Talladega during HOF. It was a major event before the Winston Million Program was even thought of because of how fast it was. I don't understand why that's so hard to get it. @291 I mentioned that in @287, but it didn't do any good. @293 NASCAR moved the Winston 500 to the Fall in 1998 where it was even cooler than it was in the Spring. During the No Bull 5 program Dale Jarrett won a million at Talladega in '98, Earnhardt in 2000, and Dale Jr. won in 2001 and 2002. 300.
