It'll be a bit smaller with Auto Club Speedway undergoing renovations to go from a 2 mile D shaped track to a half mile paperclip. Over the last 2 spring races at Las Vegas, it has been Joey Logano winning the lottery, while the competition is scratching their heads. Another constant is Matt DiBenedetto, who was finished 2nd in the last 2 races here. Ford is the dominant manufacturer, winning half of the 26 races ran here, including, 4 of the last 6, and 6 of the last 10. Since 2018, Ford has yet to have no one finish on the podium, and have led 983 laps over the last 6 races. If you are to win here at this track, you're going to have to beat the Fords at their own game. 2. TylerTaylor posted: 03.02.2021 - 4:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Is Haley full time in the 77? 3. But at this rate it looks like Haley will be in the #77 for several races. 5. Gopher88 posted: 03.02.2021 - 6:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Last week we intended to find out who the best cars were and see them rise to the top after a crazy first two weeks. And though Harvick, Truex, and Larson were consistently up front, Reddick, Buescher, and of course Byron showed remarkable speed at various points, so it's still wide open. Perhaps this weekend will provide more clarity. 6. Jimmie4life posted: 03.02.2021 - 6:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @2 No. Considering Jamie Mac ran in the 500, I think that it'll be a rotating door. For now, Justin Haley's driving the car part-time. 7. TeamDCRfan posted: 03.02.2021 - 6:45 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 2 Dont think so. Does Byron go back to back? Can McDowell continue his career best streak? If I had to pick one of those, I'd say Reddick. 10. Gopher88 posted: 03.03.2021 - 5:03 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) This track has already been good to the underdogs recently. Last year Blaney and Bowman were set to duel it out until a late caution and Bowman had a good chance to win it last fall as well. DiBenedetto finished 2nd in both races last year and Kurt Busch got his only win of the season. Also Chris Buescher scored a 9th and a 14th in the two races last year. He was really good during the daytime portion of last week's race. He could be a contender. 11. Jimmie4life posted: 03.03.2021 - 7:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Don't think we'll see someone "new" or someone with few wins in their career win this race. I think we're going to see someone like a Kevin Harvick or a Martin Truex Jr. win this. We saw the 2 and the 19 both lead lots of laps, along with drivers like the Busch brothers, Kyle Larson, and Kevin Harvick finish in the top 10. I think it wouldn't be surprising to see a returning face win on Sunday. 12. TeamDCRfan posted: 03.03.2021 - 9:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Based on last years race, the best candidate to pull an upset looks to be Stenhouse. He lead 30 laps and finished top 5. 13. DI9_ForLife posted: 03.04.2021 - 6:23 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I'm not sure how this race can top last week's, but last year's spring race at Vegas was a great one, so I'm hoping that this one will be as good as the last one. I'm going out on a limb and picking Bowman to win since he came so close in both races last year, but I think someone ordinary will win the race like Harvick, Logano, Truex or Busch, all those guys are due for a win. Picking DiBenedetto for a darkhorse considering how well he ran there last year in both races. 15. possum posted: 03.04.2021 - 8:44 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @13 - LOL! No first time winners at this track, and the last time a non-cup champion won this race was Carl Edwards in 2011. So... odds are in favor that we're going to see a regular finally win a race(not to say Byron isn't a regular or anything, but he hasn't consistently won since that was his 2nd career win). 19. He said that if Bilicki wins and he gets the $10,000,000 payout, then he will use that money to pay off all the debts his customers owe to the company. I view this as he made a $10,000 advertisement that has a minuscule possibility of literally paying millions. Hard to buy good will, especially as a loan company, so good for him I guess. 23. David posted: 03.08.2021 - 8:03 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It wasn't the greatest race of the millennium or anything, but by the standards of this track it was very good. Despite assertions to the contrary there WAS quite a bit of passing, including for the lead and throughout the top 5 most of the way. With this package we always figure that clean air means everything, but for a rare change the leader did not simply pull out to an insurmountable lead. It didn't happen when Byron was out front early and didn't even happen when Hamlin or Keselowski had their turns out front. Only an extremely long green flag run with pit stops mixed in gave the leader a cushion of a few seconds, and it's hardly realistic to think that an 83-lap green flag run should somehow maintain half a dozen cars within a second of each other at all times. 286. On these 1.5 mile tracks, it is more car than driver, and it has been that way for a while now. So while I absolutely hate they are full throttle on these tracks, if it is going to be that way, they may as well make it exciting for us. You can hate something but like things about it to stay entertained. Road courses and short tracks, and the dirt race will be where the driver comes into play more. 1.5 mile tracks are what they are. If they got rid of all of them, except Charlotte, i wouldn't complain at all. 287. DI9_ForLife posted: 03.08.2021 - 9:22 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) @286, I agree. I despise the package because there's no off throttle time and it seems like there isn't much real ''skill'' required. I did really enjoy this race, but that doesn't change the fact that this package is garbage. I wouldn't hate if they got rid of tracks like Texas or Michigan and if Pocono lost a race, but I would hate if Kansas, Homestead, and Atlanta were taken off. Even though Atlanta is in desperate need of a repave, those 3 are the best mile and a halves on the tour. 288. The main difference is it will be built for that horsepower level rather than a 750 hp engine choked down. You will once again have throttle control. 289. possum posted: 03.08.2021 - 7:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @286 - you have it exactly right. In it's way I guess it's entertaining...better than watching everyone run around all spaced out because of aero push. @288 - bull! NASCAR could control it, if they had balls. Tell the manufacturers the rule is going to be high horsepower and low grip, and they'll figure out how to deal with it. After all, they all have engines in the WoO, and if they're happy enough to make 900hp engines there, they'd do it for NASCAR too. (incidently throttle control isn't the problem, but I don't think you're using that phrase to mean what it usually means). 290. It ultimately comes down to crowd (and to a lesser extent driver) safety. NASCAR's nightmare scenario is a car becoming airborne and going over or through the fence into the crowd. That's the primary reason for high down force and low horsepower. Your proposal would lead to better racing, sure, but the risks and legal exposure would be very high. I think the trend will be towards tracks going the roval (Charlotte) or short track (Fontana) route to improve the racing show. Low down force will not be coming back. 291. 1995-Subaru-WRX-Sti posted: 03.09.2021 - 12:14 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) I highly doubt the OEMs would want to spend the money to deal with it. He actually went to talk to members of the black community where he also apologized and learned more about the word and the issues with using it freely. In the article about this, he states racism exists, which puts him at odds with a good portion of his fans who believe it does not. He has admitted he deserved to be fired and what he said has no place coming out his mouth. Once again that puts him at odds with a lot of his fan base. No one is going to tune in to watch 36 Chevrolets duke it out; they want Ford vs. Chevy vs. Toyota and maybe someone else. A race where one brand is sure to win is boring, check out the WEC where the only way Toyota loses is if they screw up royally or IndyCar's pre-2012 spec years where everyone had a Honda and no one was happy. Spec racing has its place, and it can be fun like IROC, but for the top levels you need brand competition to make it interesting. 296.
