Good first impressions, although hopefully next year the weather could be better. 3. I think NASCAR would be better off trying to schedule this race a little earlier in the season next year--perhaps around the time that Bristol was this spring, and move everything in between forward a week. Regardless of the weather and how everything played out, though, I am still glad to see NASCAR expanding to so many new tracks this year! 4. 34McDowellFan posted: 05.26.2021 - 2:47 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) NASCAR's first Cup Series race at COTA was a much anticipated race ever since it was announced back in 2020. The race would be ran entirely in the rain, a first for the Cup Series. Controversy arose following 2 big wrecks (the first including Christopher Bell, Bubba Wallace, and Kevin Harvick, and the second including Martin Truex Jr and Cole Custer) that were caused by a lack of visibility from the spray coming off the cars. The race would not be able to go the full distance despite having rain tires, as it rained so much there was too much standing water to where the cars became nearly undrivable, with drivers such as Kurt Busch hydroplaning and sliding way off track. Chase Elliott would catch a big break, as he was not likely to make it to the end of the race on fuel without the race ending early. He won over teammate Kyle Larson, who finished 2nd for the 3rd straight race. Meanwhile, this race also ended William Byron's 11 race top 10 streak, as he finished 11th. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
