Was the long-time home of the famous Turkey Night Grand Prix

Track torn down after the 1990 season, its property is now the home of
some commercial buildings and a parking lot.

Being so close to Hollywood some TV shows and movies filmed at the track
including the original Gone in 60 Seconds and CHiPs. Even the TV movie A
Very Brady Christmas was partially filmed at the track.

This is the same track as "Ascot Stadium".

Dean Thompson. Walt Kennedy. Jimmy Oskie. Ron Shuman. Ron Rea. I could
go on. I saw John Andretti and Rich Vogler there too. Steve Kinser. A
who's who list ran Ascot.

Dean Thompson was a guy I thought might go to Indy cars, but the sport
was changing. Dean was the real deal. Rest in peace.

Though he began doing stunt jumps in 1966 at small venues such as fairs
and carnivals, Evel Knievel (Robert Craig Knievel) gained international
attention with his first televised jump on ABC's Wide World of Sports at
Ascot Park Raceway on March 25, 1967, successfully clearing 15 cars.

This track produced some interesting Cup winners. Each one had 4 career
wins. Parnelli Jones is probably the best-known out of the three.

This track was built on the city of a former city dump. IndyCar team
owner J.C. Agajanian was the promoter here for years for many years.

@9 - perhaps worth noting that Agajanian made his money in the garbage
collection business (*), so maybe not an accident that he knew the site
was available.

(* Agajanian was involved in garbage collection and pig farming. In the
WW2 era, before modern day packaging, trash was mostly food scraps;
Agajanian's genius was realizing the pigs would happily eat the trash.)

Also the track showed up in the 1991 DOS videogame Mario Andretti's
Racing Challenge in the lower series races in that videogame as wel, as
one of four 3/4 midget tracks players could race on.

Is that the only time Ascot Park appeared in a videogame?
