This road course less than 50 miles from San Francisco was made
Silverstone-style by converting a surplus World War II U.S. Navy
airfield into a race track. The airfield had the traditional "X" layout
and three of its four legs were used to create a 1.9-mile track. The
track was pretty popular in the 1960s but the 1969 construction of the
better Sears Points/Sonoma Raceway nearby stole its thunder and led to
its closure. The track closed and the land was sold and redeveloped in
1972.

Notably though Steve McQueen came to this track in 1968 to practice for
his high speed driving scenes during the famous car chase in his movie
"Bullitt."
