The track was set up to run around the exposition grounds. The fair itself was held to celebrate both the completion of the American-built Panama Canal the prior year and San Francisco's recovery from near total destruction in the 1906 earthquake. The exhibits that year included the famous Liberty Bell, brought from Philadelphia just for the festivities, and a giant model of the canal. 2. Guests could watch each afternoon, six days a week as workers assembled real cars for sale with a new one rolling off the line every 10 minutes. More than 4,000 Model Ts were built on the line during the event. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
