During that span, the speedway -- which began as a four-tenths-mile paved oval and wound up as a one-third mile -- hosted some of NASCAR's greatest names, and was a true test of champions. 2. Preserving lots of the history while providing something of benefit for the whole community. In the old infield there's a hockey rink, playground, and volleyball courts, while the old track has been resurfaced and striped for walking and biking, with the banking still present. All visible on Google Maps. Wish I lived closer so I could check it out. 6.
