Was known as "Lowe's Motor Speedway," in a naming rights deal with the home improvement warehouse chain, from 1999 to 2009. 2. It features a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) long quad-oval track that seats 115,000 people[1], with room for 50,000 more spectators in the infield. Constructed in 1959, it was the first speedway to host nighttime superspeedway racing (in 1992) in the "modern era," the first being the now defunct Raleigh Speedway in 1958, and to offer year-round residences (in 1984) with 52 condominiums available over turn one. It is owned by Speedway Motorsports, which has its corporate headquarters on the same property. The speedway is considered the home base of NASCAR, with 90% of NASCAR teams being based within 50 miles (80 km). 3. myself posted: 05.21.2010 - 10:41 am Rate this comment: (2) (1) The "roughest" fans attend the races @ this track. Track sponsorships that alter the name of the track ("Auto Club" [California] Speedway, "Infineon Raceway" [Sonoma], "O'Reilly" [Indianapolis] Raceway Park, "Toyota" [Irwindale] Speedway) really annoy me. Sponsoring the place is fine, but leave the track name alone, please! 7. It never really panned out, only Sears Point got a sponsor when it became Infinion after that. 8. If this is true then that tells me that if Las Vegas does get a second race next year, it will most likely come from New Hampshire. 12. Charlotte is no Loudon, so I imagine drivers would be able to pass, but we'll have to wait and see to know for sure. 24. But whatever they used to pave that place has never looked lor really raced like it weathered. Texas is in its second season and the asphalt is already a lighter color then Charlotte. What gives? 25. Anonymous posted: 04.21.2018 - 4:34 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) 24, I don't know what they did when they repaved this track but they ruined it in the process. In my opinion, it is now one of the most boring tracks on the circuit, so bring on the restrictor plates for the all Star race and the road course this fall. 26. WCI posted: 10.03.2018 - 10:16 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) I started attending races on the infield in 1984. The world 600! At that time, you showed up early to get, "your" spot. After a few years they changed that and you had to buy a "spot," on the new grid lined infield. As the years went by, the spots got smaller and more expensive. I skipped several years in protest. This year, I swallowed my pride and went again to the 600. The CMS used to keep campers and their "racks," from the high spot in turns 1&2 to afford fans in the infield, and stands clear views. To my surprise, they rescinded that rule and now allow those racks in the high spots in turns 1&2. Basically, if you don't have a rack on the hill, you cannot see most of the track. It appeared to me that even seats on the front stretch had obscured views. Since I go to the track to see the race, and now I can't see, there is no reason for me to even go. Is it any surprise NASCAR is in decline? 27. Canadianfan posted: 06.23.2019 - 3:04 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Changed the Roval chicane on the backstretch. Much better design. 28. Corey posted: 07.07.2019 - 2:30 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Probably cause Bruton Smith wanted to create an event bigger then the Indy 500. 30. Mannoroth posted: 08.02.2019 - 12:50 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) 31. Because it's a different layout. There's a big difference between an oval and a road course that uses some parts of the oval. On the other hand, using a different part of a road course is not considered as a different track, so if NASCAR ever runs that extra part of a road course at Watkins Glen, it would be still a same track. The same for Sonoma and its carousel. And that's why the rest of the field including Kyle Busch except Ryan Blaney is still winless at Charlotte Roval despite the fact that Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick, Jimmie Johnson and others already won at Charlotte. 33. The purpose of all-star events in sports is to see all the best players play together on the same field, which doesn't happen every week. However, in NASCAR, the same drivers will be on the same track 8 days later for another race. 38. #37 posted: 06.04.2020 - 2:50 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) It's basically a shortened field with no extra field fillers involved to be in the way, alas Garret Smithley vs Kyle Busch Vegas 2019. 39.
