Located in Moyock, NC. 1/3 mile paved oval. Originally a ΒΌ dirt oval. The paving and lengthening of the track was done in 1964. The track was closed down after poor budgets and bigger tracks were being built. The track was located about 1/2 mile south of the state line on Rt 168, the entry road still exists. Just past the ABC store on the right is an un posted plot of land that belongs to a Virginia church. At the back of this property are the light towers that once surrounded the track and pit area, these lights are visible from the road. Some of the racing surface still exists and there is evidence of the old flag stand. The history of this track has been forgotten by most locals. 2. At the DTS, it hosted seven NASCAR races from 1962 until 1966. The Moyock 300 was held there from 1964'1965 in addition to the Tidewater 300 in 1965.[citation needed] Ned Jarrett won the most races at the track with two wins in 1962 and 1964. Jarret's Ford raced and won all six times, totaling $4,631 in winnings. Richard Petty, a North Carolina native from Randleman, also raced there six times, driving a Plymouth in every race. Despite being on the pole twice (1965 & 1966), Petty never finished above 3rd place. His total winnings at the DTS were $1,700.[citation needed] The final NASCAR race at the DTS ran on Sunday, May 29, 1966. It was 301 laps (99.9 miles), and David Pearson took the checkered flag in a 1964 Dodge with an average speed of 61.913 miles per hour (99.639 km/h) and winning $1,000. The track was closed later in 1966 due to declining attendance, poor revenues and larger tracks being built nearby.[ 5. Location matches the note above saying it is about a half mile south of the state lin, turn beside the liquor store. Being from NC, that direction can apply just about to anywhere. It looks like a development is being made there (as of the time of the satellite photo). Damn, I hate having to walk around a neighborhood to "follow in the good ole boys tracks". Much better to stomp around in teh woods at some long lost oval. 6. The old entry road off of Highway 168 just north of Moyock Animal Hospital is still there. The housing development streets seem to have been given vaguely racing related names, including Homestead Lane and Victory Court. 7.
