Was closed in 1962. Track is now a Junkyard. 2. Lynn Newsome posted: 08.31.2013 - 4:55 pm Rate this comment: (2) (0) This track was concidered a 3/8 mile. It was built back in the 50s by 4 men who got together and decided to build a track. My father Rex M. Newsome was the President of this track and it was owned by him his brother Hugh Allen Newsome, Robert McFarland and a Mapus man. My mother sold the tickets, I sold the peanuts. My uncle Leslie worked the sign in and infield.I can remember some of the drivers from back then. Two use to come down from Kanopolis, NC Ralph Earnhardt and Bob Seamore and they ran against some of our locals George Howle,Johnny King,Homar Galloway,Hugh Allen Newsome, W.E. Talbert, Rock Raines and Florence,SC Russell Blackmond. There were lots more of them and I wish I could remember them all. CAN YOU HELP ME ? e-mail me ez4you2@yahoo.com 3. The track was directly south of the road. Interestingly, today there are several auto related businesses around the area of the old track. This track was just 10 miles from Darlington, so it's probably not surprising that it didn't last too long. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
