Track lost support after Bruton Smith, was rumored to be building a new track called Salisbury Superspeedway, a 3/4th Paved Oval on the Rowan County Fairgrounds. The deal fell through, eventually leaving Salisbury with no functioning racetrack. http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=1876&dat=19580621&id=8i8sAAAAIBAJ&sjid=dssEAAAAIBAJ&pg=4192,3092886 2. Was located south of town right on US 29. Was a horse track reconfigured into a paved track with a dirt track in the infield, but was totally gone by 1965. However, the old grandstands appear to have been converted into some company called "Blast-It-All" at 185 Piper Lane, Salisbury. The building is on the exact footprint of the old fairgrounds track and on Google Satellite view you can zoom way in and see a building that definitely looks like a converted grandstand. To the SW, "Lucky Leroy's Appliance Store" and "Out to Pasture Pony Parts" (a car salvage business!) also use buildings that seem to date back to the days of the fairgrounds and racetrack. Though the "big track" was very short lived, this article shows that there was a long history of auto racing at the site, at Bruton Smith himself built it into a larger track: https://www.salisburypost.com/2011/10/22/rowans-days-of-thunder/ 3.
