Start/Finish was on US Rt.20 just west of McLean Blvd. The course headed east from there and turned left on McLean (today that's a major intersection with exit ramps, etc), then turned left onto Highland Ave. From Highland it turned left onto Coombs, which was known as the hairpin turn. Then it continued south on Coombs until US Rt.20. The left turn there onto Rt.20 was known as the Graveyard Turn (cemetery on SW side of intersection, still there today). Then it continued on US Rt.20 to the finish line. Admission to the event was $1, and much of the parking was done on the local farms. From the pictures at the museum, it looks like the course was unpaved, bumpy, and rutted in places, as many of the roads were used almost exclusively by local farmers. So now imagine taking the cars of that time and trying to average 65/70mph on that, and do it for 36 laps. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
