It has hosted races since the 1950s and currently hosts races in the SCCA Speed World Challenge Series, American Le Mans, ASRA, and AMA Superbike series. It is scheduled to host its first NASCAR Nationwide Series race in 2010. Road America is a permanent road course. It is located midway between the cities of Milwaukee and Green Bay. The track is situated on 640 acres (2.6 km2) in Wisconsinâ??s Kettle Moraine and it is located near the Kettle Moraine Scenic Drive. It has hosted races since September of 1955 and currently hosts over 400 events a year[1]. Of its annual events, 9 major weekends are open to the public which include 3 motorcycle events including the AMA Superbike series, 3 vintage car events, Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) events, the American Le Mans Series, the SPEED World Challenge, and the NASCAR Nationwide Series. 3. Look for IndyCars drafting down the straights and laps being turned in the 100 second range :) (IndyCar race should be about 57 laps / 2 hours time limit) 6. Cornys posted: 06.18.2015 - 3:18 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Actually, it looks like the race length would probably be around 53 laps. The same as the last CART race, but I'm not sure. I'm just excited that the IndyCars may be returning :) 7. RACE34 posted: 06.30.2015 - 10:19 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) It is exciting that Indycar maybe returning!! Also this track should be the next new road course for Sprint Cup before anywhere else!! 8. KORLORR33 posted: 07.05.2015 - 6:24 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) The Sprint Cup and Indy Car are most likely gonna race there next year in 2016 they have to make room in there schedules they are already booked with races but with Nascar they are talking about adding more road courses to the season which would spice things up instead of an oval track almost every week having said this its most likely that Road America will be the 1st of the road courses added to the schedule followed by Mid-Ohio, Road Atlanta, Mid-Michigan, and Montreal, Canada. This and possibly more who knows maybe they might add a street course to the schedule that would be interesting to see but for now lets just hope that they add Road America and go on from there. 9. Cornys posted: 08.10.2015 - 9:13 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Also, it appears that Road America may help promote the IndyCar race at the Milwaukie Mile. Andretti probably won't promote the IndyCar race at the Mile in 2016 due to the event not being profitable, but Road America could make a pretty good go of it. They have a lot larger database of race fans to contact and a better financial outlook. Not only this, but they could offer special two weekend packages. Apparently IndyCar turned them down for now, and they are looking for a different promoter for the Mile. 4 day general admission complete with a pit pas and free parking is on sale for $100 for the IndyCar weekend at Road America. It seems that Road America feel really strongly that IndyCar is a good investment at this time, and I am in complete agreement. The crowd at Mid-Ohio was HUGE. When the promotion is over the price will increase to $115. 11. typo posted: 08.10.2015 - 9:29 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) Indycars returning for there since 2007 :) I'm from Wisconsin so I'm going to try to go to the race. That would be great. 12. typo posted: 08.10.2015 - 9:31 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Indycar is returning here for the firwst time since 2007* 13. Cornys posted: 08.10.2015 - 10:50 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) Andretti is suing NOLA after they were not paid. This after the local government paid the track. Milwaukee was not profitable. Honestly NOLA should not have been on the schedule. That track is not deserving of an IndyCar event IMO. Andretti did a poor job of promoting in my opinion. Apparently they openly stated that they were not going to market the Milwaukie race in Chicago at all. That really doesn't make any sense. The number of people there and potential attendees is huge vs the local market that they spent most of their attention on. In a local market races usually promote themselves anyways. Further away is where the effort is required. 16. One important tidbit for NASCAR historians...the track website says the track has remained "virtually unchanged" from the start. So no need to investigate and layout change. 21. Loved the combination of series and racers as they featured Xfinity, Stadium Super Trucks, SCCA Trans Am, and Formula 3 Americas. Great food, great access to everything, even the sounds are amazing. It is a big change from watching oval racing and seeing almost everything unfold in front of you, but I would certainly recommend a visit to Road America for any race fan. During the season they even feature days where anyone can drive their car on a "Sunset Cruise" around the track, and other days where one can bike, walk or run the actual racing surface. Pretty neat. 22. Canadianfan posted: 12.18.2019 - 11:26 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @22 Yes that's definitely Road America. 23. I find the racing to be meh, and theaters get away easily. Not to mention a lack of wrecks at times and drama. It must just be me because lot of people seem to like this track, and it's in consideration for a Cup date. I do know some fans from the region, and I know they'll be happy 27. Mile501 posted: 06.15.2020 - 5:49 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Racing shouldn't be all about wrecks and drama. Road America is a great track that really tests driver skill. It may not provide the most exciting racing, but I think it deserves a spot on the Cup schedule. But I will say, because of the track's unusual length, NASCAR should try harder not to throw caution flags there unless absolutely necessary. 28. JSPorts posted: 06.15.2020 - 5:50 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) Out of the 5 Xfinity road courses used since 2010, Road America ranks 3rd in lead changes per race (8.8) and 4th in cautions per race (5.5). Circuit Gilles Villeneuve has the most lead changes per race with 11.0, while the Charlotte Motor Speedway Road Course has the fewest with 5.5. Circuit Gilles Villeneuve and Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course are tied for most cautions per race (7.0) while Watkins Glen International has the fewest cautions per race (5.3). Overall, I'd say Road America is probably 3rd best of those 5 tracks (behind Montreal & Mid-Ohio.) 2nd best active road course, though, because they no longer go to Montreal. 29. JSPorts posted: 06.15.2020 - 6:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @27 I think NASCAR should generally try to throw fewer cautions at all tracks, period. Unless there's actually debris or fluid in the racing line, or a car that can't move, there's really no need for a yellow. For example, Ryan Newman's slide last night certainly didn't warrant one. 30. possum posted: 06.15.2020 - 7:13 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @29 - I agree with you 100% on that one. There's a reason why it takes just as long to run a race today as it did 40 years ago, and it's not because the cars aren't faster. 31. Mile501 posted: 06.15.2020 - 8:10 pm Rate this comment: (0) (0) @29 - Oh definitely, I agree with you there. But I can't think of a more appropriate place to voice an opinion than on here. It's not as if NASCAR takes what we say and implements those opinions. I'm all for Road America joining the schedule too, but I have never agreed with quelling discussion. 35. Sector posted: 06.16.2020 - 7:14 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) #34 Ditto, but how do you truly know? What if someone is truly on the fan council and NASCAR seek the fans opinion in adding these tracks? What if they asked for both and the majority votes no to Road America anyway? Besides I think NASCAR has done good with cautions on road courses, they could adapt to the FormulaOne ruling in safety car vs full course cautions specifically for Road America because of how big the track is to have under caution. 36. Mullen climbed down from the tree and walked away, he was more ticked at Halsmer than anything else afterward. Another Porsche, the #16 Budweiser Dyson Racing entry of Drake Olson and the King of Beers' CART Indy 500 winner Bobby Rahal, would go on to win the race while Halsmer and partner John Morton finished fourth in their 962. 45. Also adds that short-cutting at Road America between turns 5 and 13A will be a 1-lap penalty. (Not sure what this means for Watkins Glen. Drivers don't even bother staying between the lines off the carrousel.) 46.
