My great Uncle was a Modified Track Champion in the early 60s here

Still active. Probably one of the greatest short tracks in the Midwest.

This track is well known for its "Eve of Destruction" or "Night of
Thrills" races featuring all kinds of crazy short track shenanigans such
as its legendary trailer races where pretty much everything getting
towed gets obliterated. It's also seen school bus Figure 8 races, the
Gauntlet race where one guy in something big that should be raced (say a
bread truck, etc) tries to race around the track while a bunch of
bangers try to crash it, and the simply named "Things You Shouldn't Hit
with Cars" where competitors plow down a variety of obstacles one at a
time.
