The Detroit Street Circuit was located near the Detroit River and set-up
around the Renaissance Center, the worldwide HQ for General Motors. The
course featured 17 corners and drew comparisons to Monaco for being a
slow and tricky street course (in fact, it was SLOWER than Monaco). The
track included a small tunnel that enclosed a small right hand turn by
the river and a railroad crossing.

It was eventually replaced by the racetrack set up on Belle Isle

Among the local landmarks this track sped by was Detroit's city
government building. Famously the track passed by the iconic "The Spirit
of Detroit" statue by Marshall Fredricks outside the city's government
building at Turn 8.
