This is NOT the historic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, it's just an old
fairground dirt track.

This one-mile dirt oval serves as the centerpiece of the state
fairgrounds and it is still active and used for racing today. The State
Fair refers to the speedway as the "Track of Champions."

The Hoosier Lottery Grandstand is located alongside the track and used
as seating for both races and concerts. Sadly this track was the site of
a tragic stage collapse that left seven dead when a violent severe
thunderstorm hit it in August 2011 just before a concert by the country
music group Sugarland was supposed to begin. Concerts have moved indoors
to the Indiana Farmers Coliseum at the fairgrounds during the years since.

Home of the famous USAC dirt track classic the Hoosier Hundred.

The 2019 season will be the last for this track as an auto racing
facility. The fairgrounds is ending dirt track racing here to pave it
with crushed limestone and make the track into a year-round harness
racing training course for horses and additional parking for the fair
itself.

Auto racing here at the Fairground got an unexpected hangman's reprieve
for a year in 2020 as the planned conversion into a harness training
facility hadn't taken place yet and the Covid-19 pandemic led to a
variety of schedule changes. The Hoosier Hundred was supposed to move to
the Terre Haute Action Track for the first time but ended up staying at
its traditional home at the fairgrounds after a postponement from May to
August 23, the same day as the delayed 2020 Indianapolis 500. The USAC
Silver Crown race was won by Kyle Larson during his hiatus from the
NASCAR Cup Series.
