It was originally known as the Baltimore-Washington Speedway for the first 1 1/2 years of operation. In 1965 & 1966 the track hosted NASCAR Modifieds and Late Model Sportsman. From 1967 to 1978 they ran NASCAR Late Model Sportsman, Limited Sportsman and Cadets. Initially racing on Wedensday nights, racing was eventually moved to Friday nights. Other divisions hosted at Beltsville Speedway included URC Sprints, Midgets, 10 Winston Cup (then known as Grand National) races, as well as NASCAR Grand American races. During the last few years of operation, Prince Georges County imposed strict noise restrictions and began monitoring the events. This required the facility to build a sound wall and the cars had to begin running mufflers. The Capitol College technical school now occupies on the site. 2. Not on the 65 map either. Whatever you are seeing at Powder Mill and Springfield was not the track. Correct me if me and my maps are wrong. In 1971 is shows that it was a dirt track too. It DOES show up on the 1971 map. The track you are talking about. Not saying it is the same as the one race on by NASCAR. I found this and a photo of a poster giving directions to the track in 1965. An asphalt high banked track... http://www.mdscrhof.org/beltsville-speedway.html Well, the maps were wrong. The directions go to the place you guys mentioned vaguely in earlier comments. The map (71 shows dirt but it was paved. Paved in 65 but not even on the map....? You can see the north end of the track more in the trees than on the pavement. The outer loop parking picks up at turn 4 and goes down the front. The back stretch extended would go up the the bend in the power lines still visible. I think 1 and 2 are under the field/pond thing that looks to be under construction. 5.
