Part of the track was used as a private helicopter landing pad for a stint but since then some of the track surface may have been washed out in a 2008 flood. There has been some talk of reopening it but this is considered unlikely due to environmental concerns. The track is near Washington D.C., an area not known for a love of motorsports of any kind. A maroon-colored paint option on the Corvette in the late 60s and early 70s was named after this track. 2. petty43 posted: 10.01.2010 - 9:19 pm Rate this comment: (1) (0) marlboro maroon what a great color that was, always wondered why they used that name. thanks X 3. The road course featured some long straights that were a little closer together than most liked with safety concerns like that helping doom this track. Its most iconic event was likely the 12 Hours of Marlboro touring car endurance race, the last running of which in 1966 counted as a SCCA Trans-Am race. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
