Candler the inventor of Coca Cola in 1909. The first event was an immense success. However in the 1910 the gate receipts were too poor to support the track and closed on October 6th of that year. The track was abandoned for many years. In 1927 the land was purchased by Atlanta for its municipal airport. 2. The airport taking over the land where this former track stood was initially named Candler Field after the previously mentioned Coca-Cola magnet and Atlanta mayor Asa Candler but it was later renamed Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. Today Hartsfield is the world's busiest airport by the measurement of having the most takeoffs and landings. Even after the large majority of this track track was torn down to make room for the airport some parts of the banking remained until 1970 when it was finally bulldozed. It is worth noting that Candler did not invent Coca-Cola, that was Dr. John Pemberton. Candler bought the rights to Coca-Cola from Pemberton on his deathbed and it indeed was Candler's efforts that made Coke into what it is today. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
