Located in Syracuse, NY. Legendary Racetrack in the Northeast. One of
the fastest dirt tracks in the world. Track is still active. 1 mile Dirt
Track. Currently hosts Super Dirt races. Track nicknamed the Moody Mile.

Unfortunately, I've heard something about this track, which was built in
1890 by the way, closing down at the end of the year.

I live just a bit north of it. They want to build an expo center and
horse riding center at the NYS fairgrounds. I heard they want to be more
competitive to get shows that are difficult for them to get now.

It's pretty much set in stone now that the track will be demolished. The
2015 Super Dirt Week in October will be the Moody Mile's last big race
before the wrecking ball moves in. Super Dirt Week will survive by
moving to another track in Central New York for 2016 and beyond.

Indeed. I believe they've already gotten started with demolition. I will
agree though, this track saw very little besides Super Dirt Week as of
recent. DuQuoin, Springfield, and Indianapolis, the other dirt milers,
still survive because they see a bit more, plus a lot of money is still
funnelled into them. Syracuse has just kind of been sitting there as of
recent.

One thing I will say, from what I heard, the builder for the track in
Hastings, which will be a half mile by the way, has a TERRIBLE record on
finishing projects. I question if that track will be built.

Also, if they're building a horse riding center, the track may return to
being a horse riding track (depends on how they build it, I highly doubt
it'll be a mile). Or it may just be an arena. Hopefully it's a track, I
don't think they'd get rid of something that's stood in various
incarnations for a hundred and twenty five years. Very wishful thinking,
I'm well aware.

"The Moody Mile" nickname came about after Wes Moody lapped this track
at over 100 miles per hour in 1970.

In February 2010 this track gained the odd distinction of hosting the
first outdoor hockey game in the history of the top level minor league
American Hockey League. The AHL's Mirabito Outdoor Classic saw the
hosting Syracuse Crunch best their interstate rival the Binghamton
Senators 2-1. The temporary ice rink was set up right on the track's
frontstretch so it could reuse the grandstands with a then-AHL record
crowd of 21,508 people coming out to see the game.

Like so many other similar tracks, it's gone and replaced mostly by
parking lots. Yuck.

The famous Syracuse 200 here for Big Block Modifieds during Super DIRT
Week was the richest dirt race in the USA for a while.
