RaceFanX posted: 02.25.2016 - 11:47 am Rate this comment: (1) (0) This track was built as a road course to host the mid-1930s revival of the famous Vanderbilt Cup races. Their race's failed led to the end of auto racing at the track as new owned took over, kept the grandstands, and switched to horse racing but building a half-mile dirt oval for harness racing. Construction of the oval demolished part of the track although other parts remained abandoned. Roosevelt Raceway was more popular as a horse racing track and remained in operation until its controversial closure in 1988. The track has been demolished and the property redeveloped for shopping centers, condos, apartments, and a Home Depot store. 2.
