Track was three straightaways and 3 tight flat turns. Auto racing was discontinued in 1960. Rex White won the only race held there. It is no longer called Montgomery Airbase, but Stewart Field. 2. Dust clouds billowed over the turns as most drivers ran on the dirt outside the runways to better attack the acute angles. 3. Stewart is an Air Force Base AND International Airport in Newburgh NY. Totally seperate. If I could swim, Stewart would be in walking distance for me. Montgomery is about 45 minutes away by car, Stewart 10. 4. @Statscrash posted: 07.19.2018 - 12:51 am Rate this comment: (0) (0) uh #1 aren't most race tracks man made? 5. There are two triangles sharing one side, making one big triangle. Not sure which layout would have been used without measuring. The one in Newburgh is called Stewart Air Force base on the 1957 map. It is clearly not in Montgomery (2 map sheets away) and just a few miles from Newburgh. OK, here is the real deal. I have consulted the 1956 and 1957 maps of Newburgh and Montgomery NY. Watching this video I am 100% sure this track was Montgomery Airbase (now Orange Co Airport). It is NOT Stewart. I can tell by the layout of the turns in the video plus the building in the video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?reload=9&v=UMAzO-0uXq0 6. This track was a rudimentary road course and should appear as such. 7. Sometime before 2004 the runways were reconfigured, but the earlier layout makes it a bit easier to picture a rudimentary road course. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
