Bob Webber was handing the reins to a new manager who planned to buy the track eventually. In addition to the name change, the new manager was reputed for his promises to lock the track down and use it as a personal playground if people didn't approve of his decisions. In the process, he ran afoul of NASCAR, racers at the track, and even the town of Epping. Star lost its NASCAR sanction and the town would not allow the track to open for the 2010 season. The Webber family reacquired control in 2010 and returned the track (as Star Speedway) to weekly racing, albeit without NASCAR sanctioning, in 2011. Bob Sr. passed away this winter, but Bobby Webber, Jr. continues to manage the track and has done a great job carrying the torch. The track still hosts the PASS North Super Late Models and GSPSS Pro Stocks, as well as multiple NEMA events and the annual ISMA Star Classic. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
