There was also a rumor (though I couldn't find any proof, and secondly said rumor came from a bar after a few drinks), that either Chad Little or Derrike Cope were going to invest in the track. Second rumor was to put a track out on the Hanford Reach. That one made me laugh at the time. Third rumor, the craziest, though it sounded cooler at the time with a bunch of drunk guys.....was to build a floating track in Kennewick and tow it out onto the river and use the Columbia Park area as a paddock area. Thankfully those last two didn't happen. I'm more intrigued by the whole Cope or Little were rumored, and I've a hunch it was nothing more than idle speculation.....that Little or Cope were named as being interested in the track. Admittedly nothin in the media so my take it was idle chatter among people in the Tri Cities. Admittedly, too, the whole floating track idea sounds awesome if they had done that. Track on the Reach? No, no thanks.... Also the track's now been torn down and is either a wine village or wine cellar/center depending on who you listen to. It's owned by the Port of Kennewick, IIRC. Also, side note. FOr quite a few years, they used to have the trackc be part of the Water Follies, by turning the boat racers loose in cars on the track for quite a few laps. It worked out better than people expecte really. I thought they displayed the hydros there but I'm now not sure if they ever did or I got that confused with the mall, whichc is well, well worth going to when the boats roll into town. Or was a decade ago. Met Chip Hanauer (a guy who is well worth talking to) during my time there. Interesting guy. One rumor that came out of the hydro guys was they were going to flood the track and run the Columbia Cup there instead of on the river. Thankfully, that never happened and the Cup stayed on the river. Admittedly, said rumor was told by a drunk fan during the airshow, so I'm not taking that as credible. 4. Held tire tests there yesterday with multiple drivers including Garrett Evans. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
