Stumbled across the following link a couple years ago with excellent info about this historic racetrack: http://collections.mnhs.org/mnhistorymagazine/articles/60/v60i08p304-311.pdf Well worth the read, even if you're someone like me who knows or cares very little about the early days of organized auto racing otherwise. This was one of the first true oval superspeedways in the world, trailing only Indianapolis and Brooklands in England. Places like Texas World and Ontario are considered forgotten superspeedways today - but what about Twin Cities? Fascinating stuff all around, really. 2. In 1920 an airport fittingly named Speedway Field was built inside the defunct oval. That airport would grow and expand greatly over the years, eventually leading to the remains of the track being demolished as it did. Today the airport is Minneapolis?Saint Paul International Airport, one of the busiest in the United States. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
