1/4 Paved Oval. 1960 hosted it's only NASCAR race, won by Ned Jarrett.
The track closed in 1974. A "sister" track has been built nearby in
Sayre, Alabama, which is a 1/4 paved, semi banked oval.

This track saw three petty racers all finish in the top ten. Richard was
second, lee was third, and Maurice was eighth.

Dixie Speedway as labelled on the 1959 Bessemer AL map from the USGS
free store online. No doubt at all, one year before the nascar race and
noted as Dixie.
(On the map, just south of the word MIDFIELD which is a burb halfway
between B'ham and Bessemer)

I know exactly where the track was but there is no sign at all on the
sky view. Half of it is under the BlueLinx lot and the other half is in
the grassy area across Midfield Industrial Blvd.

Maybe on the ground there is something to go by. Hope someone in the
area makes the effort and reports back.

Look for pics online. Those ole boys tore em up. Lots of flips and "big
ones" on that .25 track

Track is very visible in 1970 on historic aerials. Between 1970 and 1981
it's like it was just erased from the surface of the earth. Even the
access roads and everything...just any trace appears totally gone.

This track was used for a couple of scenes in the 2017 movie "Champion".
Great one for sure that I recommend if you're into Christian movies.
