Only one race was run in 1952. Track closed in 1955, and tore down. A new track at the same location was built in the 80's. The tracks name now is Gordon Park Speedway. 2. Hold the phone...... the 1950 USGS map shows what looks like a racetrack oriented N-S (11-5) EAST of the RR crossing. Matching it up with an area I know all to well, Fort Gordon, I think this might actually be the track. NOT the same as the Gordon one that is mostly overgrown. Damn if you can't still see some ghost track in the trees. I think you can see the 3/4 turns in an outline of what I guess is older trees. The end of Calumet Drive would be just off center of the whole track. Now to the 1957 map..... hmm..the '57 map shows the same as the 50 but also a new track where Gordon Park is. Footprint is the same for Gordon Park. I would like to know what that other oval was. Horse racing is big in Aiken SC, right across the river. Maybe that was a horse track and Gordon Park is the right place. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
