The track was to host at least another two Indy Lights races but the promoter, Colonial Motorsports, went bankrupt and it closed. It wound up a venue for little more than illegal street races (mostly with motorcycles) for a few years but reopened for vintage racing in 2008. 2. This 10-turn track was part of a large redevelopment of the island away from its prior industrial use, it also included a new convention center and a nice hotel. When this track was built it was agreed it would host three Indy Lights races. The first race would be a standalone affair but if it was a success there was a chance a main CART race here would join the schedule for 1998 and 1999. Ultimately the CART race never came to pass after the promoter's bankruptcy reduced the Lights race to a one-off. 4. The movie is about the famous rivalry between the two titular car companies at the 24 Hours of Le Mans during the mid-1960s with the Savannah course doubling for the famous Circuit de la Sarthe during some scenes. 5. It was meant as something of a throwback to the early street courses. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ *Post a comment:* Your comment may not appear immediately - all comments must be approved by the moderator.
